Well, saying I love you even in different language or words would have no meaning whatsoever if you dont really mean it. I think rather than saying I love you by words, it is best to show it by your action. But anyways, I dont like darling as well. Me and my fiancee we have a special nickname only for us... and thats what we call each other.. so I guess using nickname or sweet thing helps with saying I love you... Most importantly though as each woman are different, I think your friend should ask his wife, what name would she like to be called ... or how would she like him to show his love.. etc2 :)

Wow what a big question. I do silly names like honey pie, sweet caress. I find holding hands says a lot more than words at times. A romantic gesture or words like I love you darling don't work if the passion isn't felt in those words. It has to be said in a way that does express his personality and is acceptable by the receiver, the wife in this case. So what does the wife like about him? I mean is he tough, sentimental or what? See, she may be used to him not saying love you... so he needs his own personel gimmick that he believes.. ''You know flowers are no substitute for how i feel about you.''Or call her ''my star'' instead of a name or ''precious''- you have to be comfortable with what you say, she has to be romantic enough to receive it. Or simply refrain if it's an issue for her. If it never used to be an issue then questions are needed to find out why.

You are not only able to say I love you in different words. You can also using different languages. Who knows it sound more romantic for your partner. You can say Je t'aime (French), Wo aini (Chinese), ti amo (Italian), Ich liebe dich (German), te amo (Spanish).
