Differences in faith

My parents are devout Catholics and I have become Protestant, but I still attend the Catholics' Sunday service. My parents know that I have become Protestant but they are still encouraging me to 'stay' Catholic, in a nice way. I feel like I will either betray my God or my parents.

Sometimes you need to do what is Best for you, and your heart is telling you. But I can relate with what you are going thru. I was raised Mormon, and most of the family on my Mom's side including my own family are still Mormon even if none are attending Church of any sort. Back about 21 yrs. ago, I started attending an Apostolic aka "UPC" church, and have heard a lot of things over time, and thru the yrs. I have even been ridiculed by family members and they think I am weird now. But for me, it had to come down to my own decision, and explain to them, that this is for real, and I Love my New Christian life, and there is nothing anyone can do except me to change this. It may take time on your part, and a few hurt feelings in the end, but you have to live with you, and that should be the most important thing that counts.

I believe God will also help me decide in His perfect time.

You should pray about it and ask God to show you what He wants you to do. At least they didn't force you to be a catholic, but i think you already know the difference between Christian and Catholic. And you already know the truth. I agree with you that your relationship with God thats what matter. So as long as we in tune with God, i think nothing will be too hard to handle. Nothing impossible in HIM.

hey all~ the Bible teaches that GOD KNOWS the heart of man (and women of course) so i don't think it would be betraying God to still attend a 'catholic' church if thats where you are comforatable or wanted/needed..... ~j

I am very new to this forum (in fact, this is my first post)...so, I apologize if I step on some toes. I went through a very similar situation when I was a teenager. I grew up protestant (Nazarene denomination) and as I grew, I decided that there had to be more to my faith. So, I started visiting various churches, etc. As I visited, I found something out...it doesn't matter if you are Nazarene, Baptist, Catholic, Pentecostal, Lutheran, Methodist, the list can go on for days...what matters is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. While, I know that some Catholic churches are very much against the beliefs in various protestant denominations, the fact of the matter is this...we are all part of the same body...the FAMILY of GOD!
