How can any state want to build a 500 bed jail and close down 3 schools in and area where children are attending. They have shut down things for children to do after school and taken their instruments.
How can a person say lets close this school because we don't have the money to keep it open. Where is the money that is supposed to from the lottery? Do they pick which school they want to provide for?
What happened to No Child Left Behind.
When you go to apply for a job employers want you to have the best education that is out there, but if they are closing schools what percent of children will be without an education?
What percent will drop out of school because they can't get there?
How many of these same children will end up robbing or killing someone because their school was closed?
I guess that is why they want to to build more jails so they can put the children who don't or can't make it to school will end up there.

A state receives federal funding to lock up their citizens. This funding probably exceeds the funding received for schools.
So why should your governor care if your kid has to ride a bus for 2 hours to get to school? That is the way it is. They give themselves a raise before they look out for the people. The lottery pays for raises in the government of your state 1st.
They used a scholarship in my state to get gambling legalized. Now you have to carry a 3.5 gpa in college to keep it. Pretty soon you will have to get 4.0 or they will take it from you. What do the people get? A gambling joint every 2 blocks. It really trashed the area. Now people are robbing them. Every day one of them gets robbed.
Personally I think that people who have committed non violent crimes shouldn't be housed with the others. I am sure it would cost the state less to put them into a minimum security prison. This would allow them the ability to attend trade schools or something that will keep them from following the same path when they regain their freedom.
To sum it all up, arresting people is an income. Therefore if you do not educate this income will grow. Education is an expense and doesn't make money. That is unless the students commit crimes. It is a shame that they look at it this way.
