How do you think this mayor intends to punish the people who disobey his order? any ideas? Perhaps force them to live! Cemetery full, mayor tells locals not to die The mayor of a village in southwest France has threatened residents with severe punishment if they die, because there is no room left in the overcrowded cemetery to bury them. In an ordinance posted in the council offices, Mayor Gerard Lalanne told the 260 residents of the village of Sarpourenx that "all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in the parish." It added: "Offenders will be severely punished." The mayor said he was forced to take drastic action after an administrative court in the nearby town of Pau ruled in January that the acquisition of adjoining private land to extend the cemetery would not be justified. Lalanne, who celebrated his 70th birthday on Wednesday and is standing for election to a seventh term in this month's local elections, said he was sorry that there had not been a positive outcome to the dilemma. "It may be a laughing matter for some, but not for me," he said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080305/od_nm/election_cemetery_dc;_ylt=An4MmnfCBiwROdnFBFMBNZKhOrgF

Thats just plum silly. How can others not die? I don't think he should root them out of their homes just because they are old or sick. Just not right. I just imagine alot of people are telling him to go to the hot place down below..They really should deal with this issue better then he has. 70 years of age is not so springy chicken anymore so he better be careful himself and watch his health or he will see himself being drove out of his home and sent somewhere else. Or dieing and not being able to be buried where his family is. Well I hope this issue gets resolved soon.

I don't see how even if he is mayor he can dictate that people have to move out if they are getting ready to die. That takes some nerve to tell people that. Think about how those people are being made to feel. Is he going to move away if he finds out he is dieing. I think not.

That sounds absurd.Moving the elderly and the sick out is crazy all they want to do is be left alone to either die in peace or try to get well. As some have stated he isn't so young himself what if he suddenly falls ill? Do these rules apply to him as well? Maybe they should start cremating the rest so that they will not have to worry about needing burial room. What happens when the world runs out of burial space? Should everyone start being cremated? With just their names upon a plaque so others won't forget them and their names? It would be simpler to cremate but alot of people don't want to be cremated. My wife informed me she wants to be, but I can't say I want to be thats for sure. I think he should give them a decision instead of the ultimatium If they are elderly or sick for them to be cremated or to be burried elsewhere.
