my son is 19 months old, and i would like to start etting him potty trained. He has an idea of when he has to go, he will squat down. He is home all day with me, so he really doesn't get the male influence when it comes to the bathroom. What is an easy way to potty train a boy?

I have 2 boys and another boy on the way. I put a few cheerios in the toilet and told them to aim at the cheerios and pee. They loved it. They would a lot of times try to pee so that they could hit the cheerios. It also helped keeping the pee in the potty.

I have heard of using cheerois, and it sounds like a great idea. I am glad to know that it actually works.

hi there, i have 18 months old boy and i was thinking aswell to start potty training as my little one always squat down aswell when he is doing it, but it seem like all the other mums around me are starting to potty train much later around 2 years of their age. I was reading some articles that your child should show some signs that he is ready for training like should be able to pull his pants down by himself or actually telling you that he is doing wee or so. So i dont really know what to do. I have decided that i am going to buy him a potty and see how he likes it and if he actually wants to sit on it. About the male influence, they get it when they are a bit older with their dads. I probably haven`t helped you much, but i wish you good luck with everything.

Thankyou for your response. I too notice that others wait a little longer. I guess I am going to get him his own potty and we will just have to see what happens, either he is ready to start, or not and we will wiat a little longer.

My boys are all grown up now. so I started potty training them when they were about tha age of your son. For the most part just use you own common sense as to when to start. Have their daddy show them about the standing up thing when he is home. and take him when ever you think about it or when you go your self. And get rid of the diapers and don't start using those pull ups or it will take longer to train him because they keep them from being uncomfortable when wet. Sue use them at night but not during the day unless you are going some place and you know that there isn't a bathroom close. I didn't do the cheero thing but it sounds like a good idea. My aunt lived in the country when she trained her oldest boy. He is now in his 60s any way she told him to pee on any bugs that he saw. It was a good idea until they went to town and he saw a bug on the sidewalk. sure enough he whipped it out and peed on that bug. Drowned him good. It was back to the drawing board. So she didn't train her next son that way.
