Ok... I got into a huge discussion with my hubby and a couple of friends about this yesterday...so I thought I would post it and see what everyone else thought about it...It is a pretty touchy subject and I'm not trying to offend anyone, so if I do I am so sorry cause that was not my intentions. We were discussing immigration. I, like my hubby and friends, have absolutely no problem with immigrants coming into our country. That was what America was founded on. But, what I do have a problem with is them doing it illegally. Please, keep in mind that I am not singling out any nationality or race...I come from a mixed family (not me personally but other members of my family) so in no way am I discriminating...I hope all reading this understands me and the point I am trying to make on this. We have all seen it in the news a lot recently. All the new immigration laws, in my state (Oklahoma) in particular, that are being proposed. Like I said earlier, I have no problem with immigrants as long as they do it legally. This is America. Our national language is English...why do I have to press 1 to hear English on automated systems? I know other countries are a lot poorer than America, but my immediate family is struggling. Is it fair for me and other families like me to have to compete in the work force for jobs with ppl that are here illegally? Why is it almost a requirement to have to speak more than one language to get a decent paying job around here? If I were to go to a different country, lets say Czechosolovakia for instance, would I not have to learn their language? Then why is it that Americans are almost required to learn the language of other nations? This really irritates me! My question to all of the readers is how do you feel on this topic and what is your opinion on the way I and my friends feel? Again, in no way am I trying to offend anyone or single out any nationality. (Czechoslovakia, mentioned earlier, was just a random country because I have never, to my knowledge, encountered a person from there. I hope you all understand! I appreciate you input and comments!

I agree with you. If you come to live in America you need to learn the language, we should not accommodate at all. We should not hire people who do not have the correct paper work. We should not give job to people who can not speak English. Personally, if you are out in public you should speak English. I don’t care if you grandmother is 80,000 years old, she can learn English too. Everyone else had to, what makes them special?

I will not hire someone who can't speak English. That will just cost me more money trying to explain everything to them. They would cost me a lot of time. I don't have time to waste teaching someone how to speak. Speaking is a prerequisite for employment in my book. I wouldn't move to Canada and expect them to change the country to suit my needs. But I think it is the sleazy politicians trying to do illegals favors so they can get some extra votes.

I would hate to think how many good resources are going to waste on there people. I really wish everyone who is here illegally would just get rounded up and placed back where they came from. All we have to do is find a way to make them enter the country legally.

I don't think there is anything controversial about this subject. They are breaking the law. I put illegal immigrants into the category as a anyone else who breaks the law. My star is going to drop again for this but I have valid reasons. I wouldn't hire someone who couldn't speak English. This is America. If someone wants to fit into my company the 1st thing they need to do is be able to communicate. Why should I have to learn a new language to have employees in my own country? Granted if I had a client who couldn't speak English, I might learn some of their native language if I wanted the money. See I am willing to learn a new language to work. So why should an illegal immigrant be any different. If they can speak English then they need to apply to become citizens if they are going to live here. My grandparents entered this country the legal was just like so many others. Why should someone who BROKE THE LAW be given special treatment? If you ask me they are breaking the law and need to be expedited. Then maybe they will follow the proper route to enter this country legally.
