They are definitely playing on my emotional attachment to my child!

My son just brought home his school pictures. $43.00 for the package. Is it my imagination or are school pictures getting more and more expensive. We are talking $12.00 for one picture! Now they know I am going to love the pictures and probably bet their bottom dollar I'll pay for them. Do you find that when children are involved that companies play on your emotional attachment to your child? Please feel free to share any experiences you have had where you felt a company played on your love for your child or family member.

Oh they done this to me recently too at my little boys nursery only we could view them online which I did. I went into photographers website and the pic of my son was there with the photographers labels across but I thought lets see, so I copied and pasted and they came onto my documents with no writing across and printed them all out and sent them off to family and frineds. They wanted £22.00 for just 6 prints. As you say they play on the emotional heartstrings knowing that we will buy them or the grandparnets will on our behalf. The amount I have got of my two eldest girls through school and they look the same year after year, they are ones they don't want displayed so a complete waste of money but at the same time as a parent you don't want them shredded either because you never placed he order. Don't know how you have to order over there but if you have an online system in this instance I would use it. I don't mind paying for anything but school photos have always been a rip off. Ellie :D

I'll have to look into the online option. Just imagine what its going to cost us in the years to come. We are basically just getting started. Groan.

Yes, I do, and that's far too much money for school photographs. I think they should advise you of the price and give you the choice of whether you have your child's picture taken BEFORE they take them.
Let's face it... you could go to a professional and probably get them for that price.
Brightest Blessings.

They sent them home without prior payment and want us to return unwanted pictures along with payment within 5 days. My boyfriend could take them for nothing, but there is just something about having those school pictures.

Yes, I know, they always take good pictures but it must come pretty expensive for anybody who has two or more children in school. I think they should do them cheaper. After all, it's they who take them in the hope of selling and waste money developing those that don't sell, isn't it? I don't think that charge should be passed onto the parents.

Yes, school pictures are quite expensive! Most of the schools my have went to, we don't get to see the pics and then pay for them, I have to pay for them when they are taken so I don't even know how they will turn out, but of course I buy them anyway. Usually picture day finds me when I'm extremely low on finances too, so I have to go over the package options painstakingly trying to find a halfway decent package that I can afford! I like to take my kids to walmart for pics when I can 'cause I can usually get a pretty good package there inexpensively, like anywhere from $4 to $8 dollars for a faily good size package with lots of pics...though I haven't done that in quite a while so it might be more now. But they try to get me too, I get the oringal package cheap, but of course they take tons more pics beyond that and try to sell me a lot more. They would succeed too, except for the fact that I litterly don't have the money to get more.

Isn't it funny how they always arrive when you don't have the money. Murphy's Law. These were sent home without having to pay first and supposedly I only have 5 days to pay. I will pay for them, but they are going to have to wait a little longer than 5 days.

Schools here are horrendous for this. When my daughter was at school the arithmetic was about the same as for your son but in pounds. So the cost to us was about $80 for the complete package. They had class photos, year photos and a whole school one each year. In the final year there were the Yearbook photos too. After the first year we bought just one photo a year. We still have them, but they are not all on display (except when we want to embarrass her to her friends). I suspect that the schools get a cut, but it is daylight robbery.

It doesn't help that these are probably the best school pictures he has taken. Darn them all to heck.

oh yes... i can understand perfectly what you mean... it is definitely a total rip off and they really charge too much just for a picture... i can just use my digital camera to take a picture of myself and print it off for less than $0.50... buy a nice frame for less than $20.00 and frame it... it is still much cheaper than what they are charging us...

Sadly... yes... they are just to darn expensive. I always get one of the cheaper prices... I have found might as well take them to walmart... much cheaper! LOL
but I order the small pics I can always scan them and just email them to family!

I REFUSE to buy school photos anymore becaue they have gotten DISGUSTINGLY expensive....If I want decent pics of my kids I'd much rather have natural ones that show their true selves taken for free by me rather than posed ones they they hate getting taken by some cranky overcharging guy that pops in the school twice a yr....

Well sweetheart I share your feelings on the school photographs and the pricing in fact they are even more expensive here in the uk - the cheapest single photograph we could buy a few months ago was almost £10 which is getting close to $20. I know the company has costs in moving all their equipment etc but if they made the photos cheaper they would get more people buying them and thus make more profit, only they know that people will feel guilty if they don't buy their school photos. I tend to only buy them every couple of years! xxxx

I am a parent and a primary school teacher. I am always shocked at the price of school photos of my son and photos of children I have in my classes that their parents are expected to pay for. Even the smallest size available is really expensive and the medium sized photos are out terrifically costly. The largest photos are priced very high indeed. A combination of all the different sized photos is wildly expensive. I think it is better for a parent to just buy one photos of the entire class and take individual pictures of their child themselves. Some parents might have three children at one school and so taking your own photos is a good way to save money. Yes, the photography company and school play on your love for your child or children.

They certainly are... everytime i go to the children's section of the mall... i see this very cute dress which will look lovely on my baby... and the minute i see the price tag... i will get shock with the price... but then... i would want to buy it because my baby will look great wearing it...
Even with the toys, food in restaurants, even milk... they are so overpriced but manufacturers don't care since... parent love their babies... and most will pay even the with ridiculous over pricing...

It is getting ridiculous what they charge for these photos, in my boys school they used to take one each of them seperately and then one of them together, so I would just get the package of them together, but last time they just did the separate ones meaning I would have had to have a set of each. Now I probably would have had a set of each at the ridiculous prices but the quality of the photos was awful, my sons tie was all skewiff and they had taken white shirts on white backgrounds so it looked like they were just a head with arms! I felt guily because I didnt have them but I wasnt going to pay out all that money for poor quality, and they are getting more expensive but you have them because you love your kids.

$67.00? Oh my gosh and I thought $43.00 was bad. I'll end up paying for them, but I'll be gritting my teeth when I do it.
