I will donate my hair

Australia

Few months ago I watched on Oprah that you can donate your hair to organisations that make wigs for cancer patients. As I have a very long hair (I can sit on it) and as much as I love my hair and I am proud of it it is starting to anoy me a lot. it takes me forever to wash and brush it, it gets on the way a lot as well. I am going to look for organisation in Australia that I can send it to. Oprah said they need at least 10inch (25 cm) my hair is about 1m long so I can give them twice that. What do you think of the idea?

Hi violeta, I think your desire to give your hair is a terrific jesture. My hair is probably as long as yours. It reaches past my butt cheeks. I can sit on mine too and I love it. There are times when it annoys the heck out of me too. Most of the time, I twist it up into a bun to keep it out of my face. Many times, at night, if I leave it down it wakes me up as it gets tangled around my neck (lol) giving me a feeling of being choked. As much as it is a pain sometimes, I don't think I would have the nerve to cut it off, although I wouldn't mind donating it at times. For now, I'll keep it.

I have a small son that loves playing with me and he pulls on my hair when he jumps on me that hurts a lot. Plus I have a very thick hair (as in have a lot of hair) so brushing it while its this long its a pain in the butt. We are going on 3 month holiday in Europe soon so I cant spend 30 min every day plus 2 hours before and after bath separating every hair one by one to untangle it. I was going to have a trim (about 20 cm) but I remembered the show and decided to do that instead. It would grow back anyway.

In the last 3 years, I have done this twice. I have never heard of it before, but my most recent beautician had asked when she cut 14 inches of my hair, if I minded if she sent it to Locks of Love, and explained to me what it was about. I told her of course, not like I was going to take it home with me. I have two cards now that they have sent me, in appreciation of doing this. I myself think it's a great idea.

It's a wonderful way to share your blessing of long hair! I grow mine out for two years until it is long enough to donate. I have done this three times now.

My hair grows very fast so its not that big of a deal and as I never use hair dryer or chemicals (apart from ocasional hair colour) so I dont need to treem it that much. since my last hair cut in oct-nov the hair grew about 12cm.
