How are you treated at work, like an adult or a high school student?

Are you treated in such a way that you feel like you have to bring in and display your high school diploma. I am 36 years old. I work in a call center. I have been here 8 years. I know how to do my job, I know what needs to be done. The job itself is great. We are the call before you dig notification center for the utilities. The benifits and pay are out of this world. Especially for this area. It's a 45 second drive from my house. But the rules, regulations and office politics kill me. We have to ask if we can get up and get a form.. ask if we can get up and put the form where it belongs. if we accidentally use the wrong button to indicate that we are off the phone, we get in trouble. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo many things make me want to pull my hair out. We can't wear shirts with words on them unless its our company logo. That being said..... I DO understand it is a place of employment. There HAS to be rules and etc... but there is no room for margin of error.. Why don't I leave?? Find another job.. because of the benifits and pay. I like my job.. I just don't like being treated like we are in high school. Who else feels this way? I'd love to hear from call center office managers too :)

Every work place has it's own ethics and policies. It differs from organization to organization. In service industry one has to be perfectly dressed, personality is part of your job and it has to match your job requirement. Don't get upset, every one of us have to go through what you are going through, all of us face the office politics, if uniform is provided you have wear it, after all company is spending money on you. You ask your Boss he is also suffering from the same syndrome. If you lover your job then enjoy your work and keep yourself out from all the office gossip and politics. Visit : www.winmyindia.com

That's true.. but thats another thing that irks me. We don't EVER deal with the public. EVER.. BUT we STILL have to wear office attire... except for the work-at-homes! The company's reasoning?? "we feel you act more profressionally when you dress in office attire" OK FINE! BUT.. the work-at-homes.. who work in their pajamas.. do they act any less professional then we do?? If so.. then they need to come back to the office and wear office attire. It's not fair

Agreed! It's all mind set. I don't know if you are aware about a company which asked all its employees to wear tie irrespective of their nature of jobs. It was even discussed in one of the TV channel, the concept behind the whole issue was that employee will feel elevated and think BIG. Perhaps the management forgot that employee feel better only with the kind of responsibility they get along with accountable authority. The whole crux is how the management treat their employees.
