making a stupid error

Have you ever made a really stupid error through just assuming something and finding out your assumption was really really wrong? My own example was back when I was in my early twenties working as a nurse's aide.I was sent to take two different patients each in wheelchairs up to the surgical floor. I saw two rather attractive young women in wheelchairs being pushed by two older men. So I went up to the first and said. is your daughter signed in I have come to take her up to the surgery floor. the tall man withsilvery grey hair glared at me and said. this is my wife not my daughter. So then still with my foot in my mouth I said I apologize Mr. Andrews. He glared at me again and said I am Mr Stevens and this is my wife. so I go to the other pretty young woman in her wheel chair and by now I finally know that this is Mr. Andrews and his daughter Pamela Andrews. so I help both patients and their companions onto the elvator and take them to their respective rooms. I am so embarrassed by my stupid blunders that I can hardly talk. Then the kindly Mr.Andrews takes me aside and says softly we all make mistakes Nurse. next time you have two different patients just call out the names that way you save getting into such a situation. I sure did learn from then on to do just that and not just make an assumption. I was so young and a tad naive because I assumed that the younger woman with the older man would be the daughter not his wife.

Once I fell in love with my cousin and recorded this feeling in my web blog. Even myself couldn't tell why I did it. This was something I want to hide but couldn't resist the desire to show. As time went by, I knew this feeling better. It was more of a kind of trust and dependence than love between men and women. I shut the blog forever, and let my foolish but true "crush" be a memeory.
