Credit cards and bill pay

Has anyone had a bad experience with bill pay or with online bill payment? I did recently. I have standing instructions with my bank to pay my utility bills, which are usually small amounts. But recently the bank debited most of my savings all of a sudden and I did not know on what account either. Of course they later apologised, but it was traumatic seeing my savings halved in a matter of seconds. Anyone had a similar experience?
