Many years ago American companies were proud to say "made in America". Due to companies seeking larger profits and cheaper labor,"made in America" is now hard to find. We import from many countries including China. There are not enough people qualified people to inspect neither the overseas plants, worker training, or products. The operative word these days is cheap. This does not always mean better. China has been a target lately because of so many recalls of dangerous things made or produced there. It seems that China is getting the brunt of the criticizm. However, there are other countries sending us products of inferior quality, too. The old saying "you get what you pay for" works here. Our buyers and companies have decided they want things cheap as does the public. We Americans have created our own double edged sword because we cannot have good products cheaply with out often giving up quality. This is not satisfying to me. Our economy is suffering due to the loss of jobs, trade problems and the continued downturn of our dollar. Could foreign countries produce better quality? Yes. But it would cost more. I don't know what the answer is.

Yes jillmalitz, There is a need of second quality just less than best one which we can get from the product made in china and it is worth when compared with products from other countries in terms of quality and cost together. Reagarding better quality product I can say yes foriegn countries other than america can produce better quality but the question is would they get better cost? I think it is difficult to prove. Thanks for you response.

I dont know if one overseas place is any better then the other, but i try to use mostly things and foods prepared in canada because not only am i supporting my country and the employee's that work in this country to provide us with quality products, We have more extensive testing on the products manufactured in this country then even in the states! Good question ;)

No i am not at all comfortable with products made in china. I dont want to compromise on quality as chinese products have a very low quality. I take care not to go for chinese products especially toys for my children. Although when it comes to buying some hardware i find that the products are assembled in china but are made in USA.

I am afraid that I do not any longer trust products made in china - but often times there is no american made counter part. for instance I bought a new electric extension cord, made in china, and used it a couple times - then it melted and started a fire in my home! but, do you think I can find an extension cord not made in china these days? nope!

it deeply saddens me how dependent we are on everything. If I call a customer service line, most likely I will be talking to someone who barely speaks or understand english. apple juice is not made in the us. we have plenty of oil we could drill for & use here...yet we get that from someone else and are paying $3.50 a gallon for it because of enviromentalists...My kids toys were recalled for lead based paint. I think twice now about what things they put in their mouths. I cannot think of anything made in America anymore.

I've never been comfortable with it not because I dislike China but because it has taken employment from my country and the only ones who win are the big brands. It is only recently that I have become concerned about the quality though, as it seems there is little regard for consumers health and or safety. China should feel ashamed that is is allowing dangerous goods to be made and sold.
