When i fix oatmeal for breakfast I like to start with some maple flavoring and raisins, and brown sugar in the water then add my quick cooking oats so that the mixture is just almost thick. I then like to just add a big dollop of butter to it before i eat it. umm good. I also like some that I found at the Aldie's grocery store. This oatmeal had a variety of dried, nuts and coconut in it. There is another little gem that I haven't been able to identify yet but this oatmeal is very good too. How do you make your oatmeal when you have it. Do you add any thing to make your oat meal different?

I just had some oatmeal, but I was lazy. I put some in a bowl, added some water, zapped it in the microwave. I did use some brown sugar to jazz it up some, added some milk and walla breakfast.

Hello Polly. I really don't care for the instant oatmeal. I don't like the consistency. It is too fine.

I don't like the instant kind neither, it gets too mushy. I have the quick cooking kind. I have to cook it in the microwave it takes several minutes to do it. I sometimes do cook it on the stove, this morning I was lazy. Your way does sound good. I will have to keep your way of cooking it, in mind the next time. I have raisens and brown sugar, honey too.

Raisins and walnuts are my favorite addition to oatmeal. Sometimes I add a teaspoon of brown sugar as well. Oatmeal is pretty boring without any additions - you just have to add something to it to give it flavor.

I agree with you. That might be why so many kids don't care for it.

I make oatmeal almost every single morning during the week. It goes down well, and dosn't make me sleepy, and fills me up for hours. The maple flavoring idea I haven't used, yet, but after reading how you use it, I will try it. I do use raisins, and sometimes fresh dates from the health food store, and cinamin, butter and brown sugar. I just use the old-fashioned oats I get at the grocery store, although I should buy organic oats. There's a restuarant in Seattle that specializes in oatmeal...that's all they do. They serve it piping hot in large white ceramic bowls, spilling over the edge. There's a "bar" where you can pick what you want to put in it. That, and fresh squeezed orange juice..can't beat it.

I make oatmeal on cold mornings before school for my daughter so she has something to warm her up and stick with her until lunch time. She like to keep it simple so a little butter and some brown sugar is all she asks for in hers. I like my own oatmeal however with brown sugar, butter and some milk.

I do not like milk in my oat meal but I know some do. It is a good breakfast for kids on cold morning.
