What do you use your Microwave for

I have to be honest, I don't like a microwave for most things. I don't like any kind of pie crust - even pizza done in a microwave. I think it takes just as long to cook rice in a microwave as on the stove. Don't tell me your are serving baked potatoes and nuke them in the microwave I cannot stand the taste. but I love corn on the cob in the microwave, I find them come out better than boiled on the stove. what do you hate in a microwave? what do you love done in a microwave?

I don’t have a microwave at home but my mom has one at her place. Before responding, I thought of just scrolling thru the other responses to see if I could find any interesting recipes. But surprises of all, I think I am in the right in thinking that the microwave is no good except for heating cooked food and defrosting! Heavens…and people here in India are actually spending so much just to have one adorn their kitchen wall! What will people do to keep up with the trend. I just wonder how and where did this thing start and if the microwave is actually little better than for reheating, why is it so popular?

depending on how powerful it is some do cook food, the popularity is that it is fast cooked, also it does not get hot like in an oven which is great for the summer, and you don't have to dirty your stove or even cook in pots you can warm up stuff in the bowl you are going to use, but for me it doesn/t replace a stove with an oven

I will admit I do use the microwave alot ot help in keeping the cost of my electric down. I do use it to make baked potatoes unless the oven is already going to be on then I will toss them in with the other things in the oven to cook. My husband and me use it to heat water, heat up canned goods heat water for mashed potatoes, and use it to defrost meat and other items. I refuse to use the microwave to cook meats or meat dishes unless they are a t.v. dinner and I won't put in a box of fried chicken just horrible what it does to it. I have also made rice and rice roni in mine. Corn on cob I haven't tried that even though we get them alot in the summer. That does bring memories back though because I have seen my grandfather go out to his garden get a few ears of corn and bring them back into the house check for bugs and worms take the silks out and rinse and then push the husks back up into place and pop into the microwave to cook and he'd eat them lik they were the best thing he ever tasted.

I haven't touched our microwave in weeks. I accidently almost blew it up a few weeks ago. I was trying to heat something up and didn't notice the handle was flammable. haha. It went up in to flames, the whole top of the microwave was black. So I try to avoid using it since I'm afraid something else will blow up. haha. However I loved microwaved soups n'll that.. Like reheating left over soups that were once boiled on the stove. Sooo good! Other than that I hate leftovers so I don't microwave anything.

I seldom cook using my microwave oven. If I need to, I normally use the steamer. Most things that I eat that can be microwaved can be cooked using the steamer (which is healthier) too. For my "real" food, we use the wok and pots to whip up real meals.:) And so, I normally use the microwave oven for reheating purposes. Any kind of reheating.

I only use my microwave to heat up leftovers and occassionally frozen food. I like food cooked the old fashioned way. I think it tastes better and is worth the extra time and even heating up my kitchen for. I got my first microwave years ago as a gift and really never thought i'd use it. I did eventually tho and it does have some good uses for sure.

I think that the microwave oven is one of the best inventions. I usually use it to defrost or heat up food. I also use to pop popcorn!

I heat coffee, bake potatoes, cook frozen dinners, and even heat bread and muffins since I learned that trick of wrapping a damp paper towel around it. Sometimes I use it as a timer for something I'm cooking in the regular oven.

Hello, I use it a lot for defrosting as well as re-warming food. I find it very convenient for my kids as they like to make simple mac n cheese when they get home from school. I usually buy them pizza rolls, or bagel bits which they heat up themselves since I'm not at home. I really don't use if for cooking per say, but I am going to try cooking corn on the cob, as that is a household favorite and if it tastes better, I'll try. Thanks for the info!

I have had a microwave for almost 2 years now and if I am honest I have not used it that much as I do not trust them, they warm your food up un evenly and when it comes to defrosting something it does not seem to matter if you have put the right weight in, it still seems to start cooking the food after a while. I find it just as easy to cook everything properly as I know what I am doing, if I microwave it by the time I have read the book of instuctions I could have cooked and ate it.

My microwave is basically the place where I cook up ramen noodles, pizza rolls, and to lightly toast my sammichs.

I'm like you, anything that has crust, pizza , pie, patties, i don't like in the microwave. I mainly use the microwave for frozen dinners or to warm up left overs.

I love microwave for popcorn, and to warm things over from night before, or make hot hot water to make tea. I don't like meat in microwave rather cook it on the stove or in the oven.
