Under Age

I just had a friend request from someone whose profile said she was 18, but in one of her discussions she stated she was 15. Do you deny friend's requests from those who either look under age in their profile or whom state they are under the age of 18?

Think it just depends... maybe go look at the discussions she has started. To the discussions she has replied to and what she has said in those discussions.

Good point, but if mylot discovers she is under age then her account is deleted along with everything she has posted or commented on.

I don't myself. I usally just delete them if I get tired of there one line discussions. Or if I don't see them in here for a long time.

So initially you add them, but if you find they don't contribute appropriately you delete them?

talking to kids - talking to underage users
I am the same. I don't feel good when talking to kids on public forum. I need some maturity from readers. I do the same on social networking.

Well not to say that my conversations are on such a level that I don't think a 15 year old wouldn't be able to reply, but at the same time, they make guidelines, such as age limits for a reason.

I never deny anyone's request... and don't check their profile out unless they have less than 10 answers to their credit. I give everyone a chance. But if they turn out to be a nuisance... I turn their notification "OFF" and don't hear of them again. You can always delete them later on if they annoy you. Age does not worry me either. Who cares if they want to lie about their age? It is their problem... not mine. I am not their mother.

I used to feel the same way until I started a discussion about adding friends. Because of the responses I received, I took on a new outlook. I don't necessarily deny anyone, but I do tend to look at their profile a bit more closely. I would be hesitant to add someone who clearly lied about their age. It makes me wonder how honest they might be in a discussion, not to mention that I am uncomfortable adding someone who is in violation of the guidelines on this site. Had I not caught her blunder I might never have known and added her and never known the difference, but unfortunately that was not the case.

i also usually accept all friend requests. i don't really look at their profiles much to see what age they are and all. i keep the notifications on and when they post discussions, i respond if interested, but if not, then some friends i don't even talk to and all. they're just there only. since i only respond to discussions from my friends when i receive notifications in my mail and that too if only i'm interested. thus, even if they are quite young and i like their topics, i don't mind. also, i don't think i'll actually go and check up myself to find out their age. thanks for this topic since i learned that age to start here must at least be 16. i had no idea too. i learnt something new today. have a great day.

Don't feel bad, I didn't know until today either. We both learned something new today.

it really doesnt bother me that much as long as they keep their conversations to a mature level i mean anyone can tell you their age and you really wouldnt know the truth

Thats true, but when they do admit their age and its below the guidelines, would you still add them?

Not at all. Why would I do something like that? People have something to say either they are 50 or 15...

Hi KB, I never consider the age as a detrimental factor in whether I should accept or denied friend's request. I just accept and accept, and from there, I will see if I can contribute something to their discussions. I actually have an 18 years old girl on my friend's list and we kind of hit it well from the very beginning. She's a spunky little girl and real funny. However, she stopped mylotting for a long time already.

I actually don't check the age of friends requests and tend to accept everyone. I think the youngest I have accepted was 18 and I enjoyed answering his discussions. I actually haven't see him online lately so I hope he is ok. It's entirely up to you :)

I hope he is ok too. Maybe his interests took him to another site.

Who are we to make such judgments? If the kid can write she/he should be allowed to particpate. I try to always expect the best, and let others do the cutting down to size(or age).I've never denied anyone a friendship, and I never will. Life is too short for that. Can't you remember when you were 15? It seemed like it would take forever to attain the ripe old age of 21.

Yes, I do remember when I was 15, well kind of anyway. The age limit here is 16, however.

I used to accept all requests, but after a recent discussion I posted, it made me look at things a little differently. I now check their profiles before hitting the accept button.
