I haven't had one in a couple of years as I don't have insurance and can't afford it. Are there any women in the same position that can't have it done because of lack of money? I would think that something that important would be offered to women free. What do you think?

I actually have not had one in years. I have not had insurance. I just obtained health insurance last month and am planning to make an appoinment within the next few months to get a total check up.
I wish I had some help before as in discounted insurance or free check ups like you mentioned in this original post. It would have really helped me out. It's never good to put off going to the doctor, but if you cannot afford it, it's very difficult!

Yeah, it is really important to have those done. I just had mine done last week for my 6 week check up. I just had a baby. If you can not afford to go to your doctor and have it done, you can try to go to a Planned Parenthood if you have one close to you. I'm not sure what they chage anymore, but when I went last time it was free. It all depends on the money you make and if you have insurance or not I believe. I would suggest for you to have those things done no matter what. If you dont have insurance or a planned parenthood around you then talk to your doctor and see if he will take payments. Even 10 dollars a week or something like that until its all paid up. My mother had not had a pap smear done in I dont know how long and she just went in to have one done a few weeks ago and the results were not good. They told her that she has cancerous cells down there and stuff. If she would of waited any longer than she could have developed cancer and had to have everything taken out. She goes in pretty soon so they can scrap out all of the cancerous cells and will have to have a smear done once every like 2 months now til they make sure it is all gone and isnt coming back. So my best advice is go see a dr and try to work something out.
