Beating Kanye West

Was it the Grammys or the American Music Awards a couple of years back when Green Day beat Kanye West for the album of the year? In 2005, I think or early 06. I was watching the telecast and the Kanye fans were aghast, saying how these awards should be decided by record sales. They obviously didn't check the sales of American Idiot. I couldn't resist making a comment and then, in reference to B.J., remarking, "I ain't saying he a Grammy winner." So, guess it was the Grammys. I'm not knocking what Kanye does, I just don't get it. To me being an artist means you have a responsibility to wake people up, and that's what American Idiot did. Did Golddigger do anything to improve our social consciousness? I'm skeptical.
