Response Numbers

Looking through some of the discussions I see amazing amount of responses to certain questions. Generally they come from the same people as well.
While one should never feel to much envy I do wish that I will one day be able to achieve a status like that. I have seen some with over 100! My highest is about 17.
So my questions today are
* What is your highest number of responses?
* Do you regularly get large quantities of responses?
* What is you secret to pulling them in?
Thanks in advance for your time and may in every way this be a special say.

I like to receive responses to my discussions as much as the next person, but I don't know it receiving a lot would be totally positive, think about the time it would take to answer 100s of responses LOL
WE don't necessarily receive more for having many responses so I guess it's fine 17 is a nice number.
In any case, to get more responses there are a few things to considerate.
Making sure that the discussions are about things that interest people generally instead of very specific discussions that might interest less people. Making the topic easy to talk about as opposed to something that a lot of people might not have nothing special to say.
The tittle also can draw people to respond, so it's a good thing to think about it, before writing it.
Another thing that sometimes works , specially when a discussion received some responses and then it seemed to stop is to wait a few days and then comment on the responses. That sometimes gets the discussion going again :)

I've gotten 30 or 40 responses to a couple of discussions, but my average is more like 10 or 15. I even have a few discussions with no responses still.
I think people with more responses either have lots of friends who are very loyal and respond all the time, or they get lucky and post them at the right time to get noticed by a lot of people. Or maybe they are just brilliant topics that no one can resist- although I don't know if that's it because some of them are not what I would classify as 'brilliant.'

30 or 40 is pretty impressive. Even an average of 10-15 is great. I reckon my average would be lucky to get to 5!
I think you are right about the friends level and picking the right time.
Yes I too question the 'brilliance' of some of the topics as well, but for some reason they get the crowds in don't they?
* Side bar* I love the smiley face you put in, I hadn't bothered to look at the myLot code until I saw that. I'm tipping I will overuse them for a while

I think my best was about 90 responses. Everytime you post a new discussion, you just never know how many comments it will pull in. I have friends that answer regularly to my posts, but I also have people come out of nowhere to respond so I don't feel its just a friend thing. I just try to post things that most people can relate to no matter what their cultural diversity might be. We all have things in common and its finding those common threads.

Yes it is almost as uncertain as the lottery hey?
I think friends play a large part though as I know without some of my friends I would not have any posts!
I guess finding commonalities while remaining unique is important but not very easy.
Thanks for sharing

I generally get 4 or 5 per discussion, although I have a few with zero. It is difficult what discussion will hit a cord. I don't know why some do better than other, I usually don't plan my discussions.

I think the highest number of responses I've received was 16.
In some discussions with a large number of responses, they are very repetitive most times and the author or originator of the discussion replies to almost everyone's answer, thus boosting the number of responses.
There are so many discussions here that are repeated day in and day out. It's good in a way, but bad in another way. I don't know which thread to post in sometimes and don't want to keep repeating myself for the same subject basically but posted 5 different times.

Hello Lourhi,My highest number of responses are 73.But my average is about 10 responses.I did not started many discussions.
I think the selection of subject and the simplicity are main things to get more responses. If the subject likes more people then we get more responses. Thanks

WOW!! 73 is a pretty good effort! I have noticed over time I am slowly getting more, so that is nice.
I was reading a discussion early saying how discussions never really die and really can live forever so maybe one day I will reach a lovely high number like you.
I don't really start all that many either so I guess that has something to do with it as well.

i generally do not get much. it also surprises me to see how few people manage to get hundreds of responses. my highest till date is 53. but generally i get very low number of responses. as i have reached 500 and still not got such, i have left taht hope ethat i can earn more than 100 response.

I think my highest is 60 something. My average though, is around 5 or so. Its not real high (and its obvious why).
The only thing I can tell you Lou. Talk about something easy and make it short. That works. Other than that, maybe talk about something that'll get people to respond (things that matter to THEM and not you). Sad, but very true if you look at the discussions and responses comparatively.

yes I am starting to lean towards me being some what boring as well. I see many posts that I like to think eventually I would have come up with that topic but then I seem others and think how can that be more interesting than what I say!
Oh well, maybe one day.
Good luck with it and thanks for your comment (only 99 to go!:0))
