I need your opinion on Canon PowerShot cameras

I'm planning to buy a Canon PowerShot camera. What I like about them is that they are small, powerful, and inexpensive. However, I'm not sure what model I should get. The important things for me are speed, price, sharpness/high resolution, still and video capture quality (especially of moving objects; capture quality in low light conditions), image stabilization. I also prefer SD MMC media and AA battery power supply. What do you have to say about my preferences? All opinions are welcome! Thank you very much ;')

Great choice! I've had a Canon Powershot camera for years now, and I absolutely love it! I would go to a store that has demo cameras out on display and look at the different models you're interested in. Hold them in your hands, get a feel for where everything is, take a few test shots. Are the features you use most often easy to access? Or do you have to go through several menus before you can get the camera to do what you want? Additionally, you may want to do some research online. Do a search for a website with side by side comparisons of different Canon Powershot models. That's an easy way to see what the different cameras offer and how they differ from each other. Good luck in selecting a camera!

Thank you very much =') Yeah, I like hands-on buying too. And unlike in the US, here in the Philippines it's more popular than buying online. However, the store in our major department store here has an annoying "policy" where the salespeople show me the products and what these can do (which I mostly already know anyway, sheesh, you know how it is) but don't really let me test the product by myself. I mean, if I don't know something, I'll ask them, and I'll do it myself. You know what I mean. whew... and thanks again! =') btw, I've seen the Canon website, and they have a comparison tool there that lets me compare up to three models of their cameras, which also includes price (if available) in local currency =')

The power shot is a great choice except for the low light capture. I have the powershot A530 and love it. All the PS A series uses AA batteries(rechargable)and the SD card. I also have the Canon Powershot S5 with Immiage Stablization and like ti and have used it to take action shots with good results. With your concern for price the Canon Powershot A series 500, 600, or 700 might be the way for you to go. the price range is $120 to about $300. The Powershot S series starts around $200 for the S3 and goes up to $599 for the S5. The S series is a more versatal and gives you better photos but I would say the PS A series is your best value.

Basketball Game - This photo was shot with the Canon S5 using available light. It was a hand held shot with the image stabilization on. I was shooting with the ISO of 400 and the zoom about 100mm.
I have both a Canon Powershot A530 and the Powershot S5 that I use as back up to my Canon Rebel. You would not go wrong buying either camera. Good luck in your photography.
