I want everyone to breathe a sigh of relief. I cant' declaw my cat. I read all of your responses and pleas. I read and re-read the sites you sent to me. I kept looking at Cookie and looking at myself. I just can't do it. I will just have to be more fortuitous about getting her claws trimmed down and keep searching for more solutions. There has to be something that I have missed. You all that responded to my post last time, gave me some fantastic tips and I am going to try them all. I hope that in my response that I didn't seem harsh or mean in anyway. It wasn't my intention. I just don't want you guys to think taht I am some uncaring pet owner who wants to take the easy way out. I do thank you all for caring and being passionate enough to say what is on your mind. You all have my utmost respect. My love to you all!

I'm glad you have made your decision and that you are happy with it. I still say every pet owner has to do what is best for themselves and their pets and it seems as though you did. I personally don't know all of the details as far as how a cat is declawed, but I know people who have had it done and thier cats are fine and they love and spoil their cats. I really have no need to research cat declawing because I can't own cats with my allergies, which really bites considering I love cats. Best wishes to you and Cookie and I hope you find something that works!

It's always best to go with your gut feelings. They normally never steer you wrong. And I am sure you will find something that works great for you and Cookie!

Hello I could never declaw my cat. That is it's only defense against predators and such. I love my cat alot but I would never declaw it. I haven't nuetured either. I know some say that is worse then sin when they are already so many cats and animals that it is overflowing and all that it is is being irresponsible not to cause of all the animals already in the shelters. I don't plan for my cat to ever end up there. I have raised her from a kitten and I don't want to cause her any pain or discomfort of getting declawed or nuetured.

I am relieved that I have made my decision on the declawing. However I am definitely getting her spayed. I know she will suffer some discomfort, but I think it is for the best. It is ultimately your decision on what you think is best for your pet really in my opinion. So, if you feel that she is fine without spaying, then that's ok. It doesn't make you irresponsible in my opinion.

Thanks gabs! I couldn't do it that's for sure. After reading all of the pleas and the information and so on, knowing all of this, I could not have taken her in and had the procedure done anyway. I try to be informed and reasonable, and this just wasn't logical or helpful to Cookie. that's why I love mylot. There are so many wonderful people on here who love animals.

Good for you. Cats need their claws for climbing trees and getting away from predators. It is good that you took all the advice here and checked out to see whether declawing was good or bad for a cat. You have not missed anything because I was also looking for information as my son has a cat, and he was thinking about doing it. So if I could not find any more information, other than getting a scratching post and trimming the nails yourself or having someone else do it,

I am glad that I got the advice that i did here to. I really am. You guys are great friends. Most of my friends here at home were not so passionate about it. They just agreed and said do what you think is best. I would rather have good people like you fight your position and so passionately! Take care!
