As some of you may be aware Marc Emery is a famous Marijuana Activist from Canada. He has been making international headlines in an extradition fight with the USA. The US has been maintaining a DEA office in Vancouver and all but ordered the RCMP to arrest Marc Emery under the claim they had a valid reason to extradite him for selling marijuana seeds. Selling marijuana seed is illegal in Canada and the USA, however the Canadian Government tolerates and turns a blind eye to it. After much press and the US claiming they'd throw two of Emery's friends in jail as well Marc caved and agreed to a plea bargain of 10 years at least 5 of which would be served in a Canadian prison. Everyone was happy, The US got their sacrificial lamb, Marc avoided imprisoning his friends, but now the Canadian government is saying they won't do it because they will not put someone in jail for a sentence that is harsher then they would be sentenced with here in Canada.
This seems like Canada finally growing a backbone and standing up to the US on this matter, but in fact it is the Government proving once again what spineless cowards they are. You see there are those in the US who would love to prosecute Emery to the full extent of the law, which could mean Emery spends the rest of his life in a US prison, and this is who the Canadian government is appeasing. You see if Canada really wanted to protest the 10 year sentence due to its not what they would dole out they need only charge Emery here putting a stop to the extradition process since you cannot be extradited for a crime you have already been charged with. So if the Canadian government would dole out their punishment for selling seeds (a fine) then Emery could stay in Canada and the US would have to go home with their tail between their legs, but no Canada doesn't have the guts for such a move.
The Emery case really gets my blood boiling, because while Emery is an egocentric blowhard, he was not doing anything that you go to jail for here, and now he is going to face serious jail time because our government is to scared of the USA.

Well, cannabis was declared illegal at least in part from US pressure in the first place. In any event, it comes as no surprise that our gov't is STILL bowing to pressure from the DEA. I watched the Prince of Pot documentary and found it quite illuminating. He HAS been fined by our government before(I'm not sure if it was for selling seeds), but that's not good enough for the hobnail booted DEA. That being said,he really should just be charged under our laws to make the extradition totally illegal and shut the DEA up. Hmm...I think a visit to his website may be in order sometime today.

Today, April 9th, 2008 is another one of Marc's days in court for the extradition to the U.S.
April 11th, however, is the Appeal case that will use the Nelson precedent to attempt have him tried here in Canada under Canadian law so that the U.S. cannot extradite him there for a life sentence. They are using a March7/08 as a precedent for this action.
This is a sovereignty issue. I sincerely hope it works. I would not like to see the biggest activist silenced. I strongly believe MJ should be legalized.
Yeeeee Hawwwwww! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
