old days you didn't have to get a social security number till you went to work. Now, newborns receives a social security number. The question is, what if a person wanted to get a social security number to the newborn before the baby is borned.

Why would you need a social security number before the baby was born? You can't get the social security number until the child is born if you think about it sadly sometimes babies are stillborn and would not need a social security number that is why you wait until the child is born.

I agree. I cannot think of a single reason someone would want a social security card for a person before they are even born? It doesn't make any sense to me at all. What would anyone need this social security card for before the human was even born? I don't get it.

Thanks for the reply. Read my reply to the first response and you see two reasons why.

I'm guessing that wouldn't be allowed for a few reasons. First to get a social security number you need a name and a birth date. Names can be decided on ahead of time but birthdates can't be predicted. Scheduled c-sections are generally accurate but things can happen to change them sooner or later. The other reason why this would be a bad idea is because a person could potentially fake a pregnancy in order to get a new social security card...there are many possibilities of how that could be used and none of them are good.

I don't think you can do that. I believe they only do socials for live births, otherwise they would have a whole bunch of wasted social security numbers from miscarriages. They don't give you the papers for filing for a social until after the baby is born (at least they didn't in my hospital) so I do believe that you have to wait until the baby is born to file for a social security number.
