does your cat hiss at the other cats when you feed him/her?

well you know the typical scenario: a group of cats/kittens or a mixture of both eating on the same bowl, then all of a sudden a cat raises her paw to "paw slap" the other cat who eats with her, even though they are family and they are from the same litter.i can understand if they were hostile to the strays but i had cats who are soooo greedy that they do not allow thei brothers/sisters to eat with them while they are eating, so the oppressed cat would do is to wait for the greedy cat to finish and he eats the leftovers. but outside of mealtime, those two treat each other like siblings, they lick each others fur, keep each other warm thru snuggling with each other when its cold, play with each other, etc..oh well, that's why they are called animals in the first place..so tell me if you own or have owned "greedy cats" and how did you deal with them.me? i just got used to the greedy cat eating first then her brother would take over when she's done.

i have a calico that will.she thinks everything is hers exclusively, including the food.she goes so far as to hide toys from the other cats so they won't have them. you have to watch her at mealtime,or she will sit there and eat it all just to keep it for herself.

really? she even hogs the toys? now that is one selfish cat, LOL how many cats do you have? maybe she was your first cat and then the others came by later so that's why she's not used to share food and toys with other cats? coz she was used to being alone? ive never heard of a cat that hides even the toys, LOL

i suggest that you when you feed your cats, so that you dont have to always watch over them, you feed the dominant cat inside a kitty cage,or a cage thats big enough for her and her bowl so that the other cats can eat in a relaxed manner coz no one is gonna hog and hiss and slap them.

i have 3 presently, but when she was born we had 5.so she's always been around other cats-i think that's part of the problem, she's always afraid one of the other cats is going to "steal" it from her,so she hoards. she's very dominant acting over the rest of the cats.

Sounds like a case of dominance. We have the same problems here. We have 4 cats inside and 1 is a boy. He is quite the gentleman and lets the ladies eat first, we have 1 dominant cat.

so is the dominant cat a girl? oh so he's pretty much like my cat, maybe you should separate the dominant one so that the oppressed cat could eat.

Its called the "pecking order" they have already figured out who is going to get the food first, try feeding in seperate bowls away from each other see if that works. ( i've been in the bussiness for 8 years.)

oh ok, well ive never tried to feed them in separate bowls when those two cats were alive (they both passed away last 2006) coz the meek one seemed pretty content to just watch his sister eating and waiting for her to finish..then he'd take over. as of now i only have one cat but for sure i will feed them on separate bowls if the other one gets greedy.
