I just got hooked up on Skype-out today. Its a computer phone connection entirely free, world wide from computer to computer. All you need is a speaker and mic (built in to most new laptops) or a plug-in mic and speakers. The next best thing about Skype is, it supports a webcam, and you can talk to your kids and see the new Grandbaby at the same time. www.skype.com

I use skype everyday. Having friends all over the world I've met physically, skype is a cheap and easy way to stay in touch. Best thing since sliced bread.

Speaking of Sliced Bread! How was your trip to Austin? How does Tx compare with Australia?

Am here till May, well that's the plan at this point. And so far the weather is similar so I might as well be in Melbourne in spring.

I have skype on my desk top computer, but haven't yet installed it on my laptop, which I use most of the time. I need to get a new microphone headset just for the laptop first. The one on the desk top I prefer to keep attached, as the boys like to play lots of games online, and I don't want to have to hear it.

You can type skype as well if you haven't a headset. But it's slower if you can't type fast.

If your laptop is fairly new it may have mic and speakers built in. Mine does, and both sound and mic work well.Walmart has what you might need, and also Webcams. A friend paid $16 for a webcam at Walmart that had a mic included. Webcams are Great on Skype. Its possible to enlarge the pic to full screen. Really makes your friends come to Life!(almost)
