As it's Budget time again..I just wanted to get an idea of people's feelings on this subject-I'm seeing Ads here on UK TV saying the powers that be can confiscate Your car and crush it if You don't or Won't pay Road tax..I'm also hearing that it IS a recognised problem in the UK,that some drivers are driving while uninsured.I'm also seeing ads saying everybody's car registration details are on the DVLA computer,so they know where every driver Lives and can send out penalty notices to those who don't have the car taxed-so why is the taxation thing an issue?
Why not just abolish the annual car tax disc, and just add something like another 5p to a Litre of Petrol? That way,the people driving gas guzzlers pay more, the people using the roads more pay more, and nobody escapes the net..The only drawback I can think of is,road tax has already been abolished on classic cars over 20 years old,so that way would bring them back under the tax umbrella.. any thoughts?

Its a decent idea - but the government wants as much money as possible. Therefore they will keep charging car tax, and keep increasing fuel tax as well. Both are targeted at those vehicles who use most fuel.
I will keep buying fuel and paying car tax, and I can understand paying more for polution but in return I want the roads etc kept in decent order.

Thanks for the comment-I'd really like to know the money raised from road taxation was all being ploughed back in to Improving the roads-Here in Northern Ireland,We don't even have a Motorway across the country-the M1 turns into a 2 lane road 40 miles out of Belfast! Artics and Tractors...a fun mix..
