My oldest, who is 6th grade, came home yesterday all excited because the kids in her grade, boys too, are doing cats cradle and other string games. I remember doing this in the 1970's, and did it bring back a lot of memories. We tried to show her when she was in third grade but she was too young. She was working on this all last night. I was happy because it was something that wasn't electronic, LOL. We did a search on google and there are lots of neat websites. We even reserved a book at the library so she pratice in her room. I love it!!!! I can't believe all the new things you can do. I still have stitches, until Saturday, in my finger but once they are out I told her I will help her do some more. I think this is so cool that the kids are all excited about this!!! She cut some strings and she put in her pencil case so she is already to go today. Too funny.

I have never heard of such string games, I may have to look them up too :) sounds like a lot of fun and isn't it great when the kids get right into it? I hope she has lots of fun! Our fun fair is in April and my son can't wait to take part in it too. I will be volunteering for 1 and a half hours, assisting his teacher in a class game.

He might be a little young for it, but you can try because you will never know unless you try. Good luck.

Great, more changes come highschool. I'm still trying to get through the middle school changes. LOL I never was into marbles as a kid. I know the next county over has a big marble tournament between middle schools. Tina likes playing marbles and Bob has been showing her. I have played with her a couple of times. I would rather play a good old board game with her.

it really nice that you got to do something from very old times. actually now the children have forgot or hey do not come to contact to those things often. now the life seems more plastic. it feels so good when they can engage in those.

I agree with you about the plastic comment, if it wasn't electronics my daughter was bored. LOL She is one who has always had a hard time entertaining herself, LOL. Nothing compared to her little sister - it's funny how each child is so different. The girls came home from school yesterday still all excited about doing this games.

She and a friend came home yesterday and went right to a website to learn more games. We are still waiting for the book from the library. It's funny, she said one of the teachers told the class that if they are caught playing with the string she would cut it up into little pieces. LOL Oh, I do remember my mom teaching me how to play Jacks. She was the best at it. We share so many stories of when she use to sit on the doorstoop playing this in the 1950's.
