Can Humanity survive?

Many people are saying that humanity has reached a crossroads, that we must either change or face extinction as a species. After millions of years on this planet, we still believe we can solve our differences by fighting. We still think that there can be a military solution to the world's problems. In technology, we have made great strides, but in human relations, we are still in our early teens, in fact that might be an insult to thirteen year olds. Many people still think that their religion is the only true way, and are ready to kill to prove it. In the twentieth century close to 180 million people were killed in war or as a result of war, and the twenty-first century is of to a very poor start. We are destroying the planet and making it very difficult for other creatures to live here. Will mankind go the way of the dinosaur? There are many who think so, there are others who still think we have time if enough people will change their behaviour. I am not talking about some supernatural intervention here, I am talking about bringing about our own destruction. Do you think we still have time, and do you think enough people will change? Will our children and grandchildren have a tomorrow?

I'm waiting for mother nature , some cosmic event or our own stupidity to hit the big reset button. Civilization would likely collapse in on itself. I'm sure some of us would survive & hopefully learn the lesson. The way we're going it's not a matter of if but when.

Hi uath, Thank you for commenting. You may be right about some of us surviving, but would we be back in the stone age? I think it's quite possible that all of this happened before. Blessings.

I'm sure this is a load of fuss over nothing. If we have to evolve somehow we will, the world will only end when god wants it to

I still believe that there are more good people in the World than bad people ,but bad people are very noisy and they make themselves noticed by everyone. On the other hand, we need to educate the world. Ignorance is the cause of all evil. Also, sometimes, we have no choice than to fight those who want to kill us and this is considered self-defense. Americans will depart from Irak as soon as those terrorists stop killing people. Religion has been the cause of a great deal of suffering ,but usually christians are the ones always reaching out and helping others.

Hi Mirita, Thank you for commenting. I can see that you have given this some serious thought, and we agree on some things at least. Too many people are hiding their head in the sand and waiting for things to get better, forgetting that we are the problem and we must solve it or perish. Blessings.

Yes we are destroying the planet and our environment! Like so many other animal species humans have killed off into history. I think the animals are an example of what will happen to us, after all it is our ways that destroys their habitat and poaching also plays a big part. I think if were keep going the way we are, the world will keep getting hotter and we will eventually die... SAVE WATER AND POWER EVERYDAY so our children can live lives similar to ours.

I think we still have time, but it has to be a collective effort. I think enough individuals will try and do what they can. We will have to see how things go though. I mean look at gas prices. Why weren't we working on an alternative much sooner to gas? My husband and I carpool every chance we get and we try not to drive one day a week. This is just an example, but if more people pitched in a good way, things would get taken care of. It is just hard to say if this will happen or not since humanity has a tendency to be selfish.

We may never know what lies in our future or of that who will we leave behind. While we are thinking about it I guess the best thing to do is be aware of what will happen if we don't change...so better change to save the future. We should teach the young ones the importance of taking care of mother nature and having peace surround us. It will depend on our kids to fix the future before it's too late.

Man cannot change himself. Only God can. Man fell into sin in the Garden of Eden, and it has been downhill ever since. We cannot solve our problems by not fighting, because if one stops fighting, there is another who will take advantage of the non-fighter and make him obey that one. The only true way is to believe in God the Father, and HIS only Son Jesus Christ. As for the religions that fight, there are such a thing as just wars as well as unjust wars. Can you think what would happen if Hitler won or if the Communists had taken over, if you said good people should not fight? We also have to be stewards at take care of the Earth, not because some environmentalist or someone who believes that we destroying the earth through global warming, cooling, materialism or whatever but because God put man on earth for that purpose. I do not know who will change because in order to change, everyone has to change and believe in God and the future of the planet will be determined not by you or me or anyone else, just by God. So if too many people go downhill, watch for more rumors of wars, earthquakes, storms in divers places, etc.

Hi suspenseful and hope you don't mind my butting in here..and no this is not exactly an argument here and we've kind of had our share here ..since you are a reader I highly recommend reading Eckhart Tolle's A New Earthwhich is on Oprah Winfrey's book club recommendations and is now a free on-line webcast...a world wide unheard of event as it is a live interaction "class" each week to discuss each one of the ten chapters of his book..I'm part of it and Monday begins the third week. This is one of those "deep" books...either you get it or one won't...it has a lot of revelations in it that makes one go "Ah-HA!" One part, which might make many of the Christian faith squeamish is the explanation of exactly what the real meaning of "sin" means....an nope, it's not the traditional Christian viewpoint that has been misinterpreted. To quote directly from his book on page nine: .."According to Christian teaching, the normal collective state of humanity is one of "original sin." Sin is a word that has been greatly misunderstood and misinterpreted. Literally translated from the ancient Greek in which the New Testament was written, to sin means to miss the mark, as an archer who misses the target, so to sin means to miss the point of human existence. It means to live unskillfully, blindly, and thus to suffer and cause suffering.." Uh...quite a different way of viewing the word sin..no? I really do recommend you read this book suspenseful...I "get it" as so much of what he writes is what I've been aware of for many years

Hi suspenseful, Thank you for your comments. It is very clear that we do not think alike, especially in matters of religion. I believe that we can and must change now. I do believe in God, although I cannot prove it to others, but I believe that God intends that we use the knowledge that he gave us. The Bible has many truths but is not to be taken literally. Blessings.

Good post, Pose. I think one important point we all need to learn to be able to survive is to talk it out however difference of opinion we have. It is easy to bomb and let one's baser instinct rule the show, but it is difficult to tame our passion. And so even if we disagree on issue slug it out verbally. Never get physical. Big country or small country... never fight, but talk.

Hi headhunter, Thank you for that excellent comment. We do need to talk, and the fact is we aren't so different after all. We should have passed the fighting stage a long time ago. Blessings.

People will not really care about what is going on until it is too late. The reason is because all people do is talk. Nothing is ever really done. Everyone wants things to be better, but not everyone is willing to make the sacrifices needed for change. We have been stuck at a crossroad for a while. We have all these new devices, cell phone, internet, and all these other things to bring us closer, but all it has done is allowed us to drift further apart. Everyone is in to themselves and what they personally need and no one cares about any body else.

Hi Pose123, Humanity has taken a jolt in recent years and the very people who talked about humanity started to taste the fallout of their adventures and developments. You might have watched that more number of people in the world are joining together in saving human lifes and I am sure that in a short time from now you can see a change every where, where people will be working for the betterment of this world - Just for example -take Global Warming - which is now talked by every one and everybody is trying their bit to bring the much needed saftey which can bring the old pleasure back on to the earth. I appreciate you for having put an interesting discussion pertaining to all of us in general. Good luck.

Yes , it is true indeed . We have reached such dizzing heights that the only way forward is to plunge down . We have mastered the art of exploiting everything we can think off , but still hungery for more . There is clear pattern emerging of our destructive tendancy in our evolution . Every time we faught it was getting more sophiticated , organized , more in numbers and more bloody . Each time we retreat en rout ,we reorganise better and learn from our mistakes .Early eras we fought in the name of clans , tribes, communities , caste , country and now in the name of religion . If you could see , the evil in us is getting bolder and greater .I f we manage to survive this episode ,the next one would be like STAR WARS , with the aliens . with regards www.chocolatesavy.com
