When I was still in the Philippines, I frequented this 99 store where you can buy a lot of stuff for only 99 pesos (about $2 in conversion). But most of the items sold there are only clothes.
When I came here to the US, I found this Dollar Tree store and I was so happy that I could buy all kinds of stuff for only a dollar. From beauty products to home wares, from scarves to gloves, from socks to shirts, from pens to books, from soaps to food. It was a playground.
So tell me, what can you buy with a dollar in your country? Do the math and convert ONE US DOLLAR with your country's currency and give me the items that you can buy there and let's see if economy is really spiralling down.

I live in Canada. And the Canadian/US dollar is pretty much the same. So it's not much of a saving on that aspect. We have a few stores with the dollar stores.
A Buck or Two. With this store things range from a dollar and more. I don't really care for this store as things in there you can get at other stores at a better deal.
Dollarama. I truly love this one. I can find so many great deals here and with this chain everything is a dollar. And I mean a dollar. NO MORE THAN A DOLLAR. In this one they offer everything. Socks, underware, foods, pens, pencils, recipe cards and index cards, photo frames, little radios, good quality ear phones, cute little boxes, flower pots, etc etc. I love this one. Went there last night cause I had to pick up a few things. Came home with a whack of things and paid almost $40.
$1 Store. I beleive this one is pretty much bankrupt as I only know of one here. Don't really care for this one either. It's not like my dollarama.

Oh I see. I have not heard of that Dollarama here in Maine. I dont know, maybe there is somewhere but I am new here so Dollar Tree is the only one I know and so far, I am happy with it. Glad to here about the Dollarama though, I have a cousin in British Columbia, so maybe when I visit him there I might check it.

It's truly a great store but to be honest I have never seen it outside of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I'm not to sure either. Would be worth looking into it for sure though.

Since the rate drops, so USD1 can't buy as many as in the past. I can buy about 7 newspaper here. And I can have a breakfast or a simple lunch or dinner with one dollar. And you can buy a soap, or an underware etc. USD1 still means something.

oh too bad, I know that the economy in almost all countries is getting worse. Even here.
