He handed me a message

When I was in high school (that was a very long time ago), one of my classmates handed me a note. I don't know if he made that note or he just copied or heard it from somebody, but as for me that's the first time I saw it. The message goes like this:
I CAME FIRST BEFORE A FIFTY ROMAN NUMERAL NOTHING COMES BEFORE A V INVERT A THREE AND YOU WILL BE THE NEXT
After solving the message, I smiled and blushed a little.
Can you tell me what the message is? Any similar incident when you were in high school?

It took me a while to solve the message: XLIXVMEIII (I am not real sure what the message means, the M, E and III are all attempts to trahn late the "invert a three and you will be the next").
While I was in high school I, also a long time ago, I got a number if strange notes from verious classmates, mostly boys. I took them very seriously at the time, but I have learned to let them role off my back since then and had mostly forgotten about them until recently.

I was never very good at solving puzzles, so naturally I didn't really figure out what the message meant. I sort of assumed that it had something to do with love. I spent time trying to figure out the roman numeral equivalent, which is probably the best I could do. I still don't quite understand the message, but I am glad to have had the chance to look at it.
