How to add smileys, bold and italic the words in mylot discussion?

I see that a few mylotters added smileys and some even bold and italic the words in their discussion and comment. I wonder how they did that. It will be fun to be able to use smileys in order to show your expression in our discussion. Please tell me how to add smileys. Thanks in advance to all.
