you light the match, stick it into the the lemon, then place the lemon on the plate and the cup on top. the chemical reaction of the combustion of the match will use up oxygen inside the cup and cause a lower pressure. the water on the plate but outside the cup will be forced in due to the high pressure outside the cup.

Whilst it is true that the burning of the match will consume the Oxygen in the glass no negative pressure will result for two reasons. Firstly as much Carbon dioxide will be produced as Oxygen consumed, so no net gain or loss there. However the burning of the match will have another effect, that of heating up the mixture of gases in the glass, this will cause them to expand creating a positive pressure, driving any water from the glass. all the best urban

I figured it had to do with squeezing the lemon juice into the plate and lighting it but I couldn't figure out how the water could get into the glass if the glass is standing upright. I tried to figured it out before I scrolled down to read the other responses.
