Yes, 2008 has really been hard for federer. Although, he started of well by beating NADAL in one of the finals of the clay tournament. Clay has never been best surface for federer and it was the first time, anyone beat Nadal on clay. So, I got a hint of belief that federer might give a tough time to NADAL in the french open final but it didn't occur and Federer lost in straight sets. And then, Federer again lost to Nadall, this time in the wimbledon final, i accept it was a hell of the match and both players really played well and Nadal has been improving alot. Well, he has started off not in his usual fashion. He reached the finals of the two grandslams, but unlikely lost both. but still he is the world no.1 and i hope he will the next two grand slams to retain the no.1 spot :) Go ROGERS Go

Me too hope Federer retains his no:1 spot...If he is on his peak then..even the prime Nadal might not be able to stop him

It's probably the beginning of the end of the dominance of world tennis by Federrer.I am sure he will still continue to win tournaments , but the challenges he'd face would be greater.Even this year he again dropped a set against Sampras during the exhibition match.

well I have to agree with you. His opponents are more stronger players now and for all of them he is the target to beat.

Let's face it, it's been a tough act to follow being number 1 for so many years with no one quite catching up with him for the longest time. Even Pete Sampras during his peak held on to the top spot for a phenomenal length of time before others began dogging him. But then, whoever manages to do that for so long will eventually burn out. Physically for one, although what allowed Federer to stay on top for so long was because he was in excellent physical condition. But look what happened when a bug finally caught up with him. He lost the Australian Open. And it's been a difficult year ever since. While he still managed to make it to the finals of both the French Open and Wimbledon, it has taken its toll on him, mentally and physically. Perhaps, it is time for him to take a break, re-assess himself, his goals and his physical and mental preparation. Who knows like Andre Agassi he may experience a second wind, which will really put him as the top tennis player ever.
