Playing Dead?

Lassie - This is a picture of our dog Lassie. She came with the name when we got her from collie rescue.

This morning I got up around 6am to use the bathroom and right outside of it is our dog Lassie (she came with the name when we got her). She's laying there with her eyes barely open and she isn't moving. I call her name a few times with no response. I reach down to pet her head and she seems very stiff and cool. I push on her head, she slides on the tile but doesn't move otherwise. I'm thinking "Oh my gods what am I going to do". I'm about to wake up my sister to let her know. I turn on the light over head to double check and she is breathing, Thank gods. After a couple of moments she gets up like nothings wrong, gets a drink of water and goes back to lay down. I told her she plays dead way too good for me. Have your cats or dogs ever scared you like that or in some other way? I really thought something was wrong with her. If I didn't know better I swear they have an insurance policy out on me and they try to give me a heart attack so they can collect :)

Well I'm glad you haven't to that extent. I hope she doesn't do it again any time soon that's for sure. There have been times with our cats i've had to check to see if they are breathing because of how they are laying but never like this before.

Oh, my gosh! That is too funny. I'm so glad it had a happy ending! She had me going, too! I was scared she had eaten some raisins or something. Maybe she's just a really sound sleeper. :)

She could be but I hope she doesn't do it again. I don't need that type of excitement. Next time I'll get one of her treats and see if she responds to that :)

actually yes, my cats sometimes do that to me as well. It does scare the living daylights out of you though.

Wow! I think your dog should be an animal actress! *LoL* I think she deserves an Oscar for that performance. Thank goodness none of my animals have ever done that to me. I think I would've freaked out.
