It is driving me nuts, for the last week or two, the phone has been ringing about 4 or 5 times a day and each time I get up to answer it, just before I get to it, it stops! When I try to find out who called, the message just says the caller withheld their number. At first when it happened I just thought it was a company or something, but normally the phone rings until you pick it up and if the call centre has no one available then it just cuts off. But this is like someone is phoning the number, letting it ring a couple of times, then hanging up! Now it is starting to bug me, I have also noticed that it does not ring once the kids are home from school and my husband is in from work, it also does not happen at weekends. It never did it once all weekend, as soon as monday started today it happened again. 5 times I have had it happen today and I was getting really frustrated with it. Has anyone any suggestions as to whether there is any way of finding out where the calls are coming from? Has anyone ever had anything like this happen, and did you find out who was behind it?

Oh Rose ..a horrible thing to happen...my first thought was that as you say a company is trying to `cold call`...and the calls are computerised ..so only some at random are answered....
But not ever having had anything like that happen to me..i cant really thibk what it is...or what you can do to stop it....
I will keep my fingers crossed for you

It seems like someone is making fun by making calls to you. The scary part is the caller seems to know the time you are alone in the house. Is your phone near to a window or a opening where someone from outside could easily know that you are going to pick up the phone? Hopefully not. You might consider move the phone to somewhere not visible from outside. Luckily I didn't experience that. But I can imagine that it's really annoying. As what had been suggested by the previous responder, you should check it out with the phone company. If they couldn't help in anyway, just change the number and let those who should know the number have it.
