Spring Craft Shows... Do You Go to Them?

Peace Dove Bracelet - This is a new creation that will be put into my Etsy shop later today
Aqua, blue, clear and white glass beads adorn this 8" bracelet. A few pieces of moonstone have been added to the mix to add some depth to the piece. At the center, floats a silver Dove charm.
This bracelet can be sized up or down at your request... more photos of this piece can be found later this evening (3/18) at my shop on Etsy.com

St Patty's Day is over and Easter is just around the corner and that means the Spring Craft Show season is getting underway!! I have a couple of shows lined up already and I'm on the waiting list at a 3rd...and looking for another show to add before Memorial Day. I still creating pieces to bring my inventory up to my desired levels (I like to bring a lot of overstock) and still have several pieces of Beach Glass ready to go (and so many waiting in the wings for my hubby to drill holes into) So who else rents spaces at Spring shows? Are you unlike me and have everything all ready or will you be creating new items a few days before the show (very much like I'll be doing...lol)? I aslo love going to the shows as a customer, do you attend shows, just to see what is out there?

I love craft shows! I've never done enough of anything to bring to a craft show, but I sure love to go and look at all the pretty things. I crochet mainly baby blankets and afghans and there's not really a market for much of that, and afghans are very time consuming to not get a return on. I take it you make jewelry?

Yes, I make jewelry. I also knit some and I love creating with polymer clay. There is a market for your baby blankets on Etsy.com if you ever consider selling them. I made one for my son, but passed it on to my sis-in-law first for her little boy and now her baby girl. She wants me to make another, this time in pink or lavender. Thanks so much for your comment... I love hearing about what everyone enjoys making!!

I did join etsy a few weeks ago, but I don't know if there is much of a market for my things. If you want to take a look, its MACrochet.etsy.com What is yours?

I do some craftwork, but I don't rent space at craft fairs, although I do like to go along and have a look around at what other people have achieved. I often come home with a few pieces I've bought, just because I like the way they look, or the concept behind them. I love the peace dove bracelet in your picture. Brightest Blessings.

Why thank you for the compliment! I love going to shows as a potential buyer also. I like seeing what is out there and hope maybe to be inspired by a piece, to make something a bit different. Blessings to you and thanks for the response!

I take my crochet stuff to craft shows a couple times a year. My friend Sharon makes lovely beaded jewelry and we usually go together in a booth. I love to just visit, too. I usually have a bunch of stuff ready to go. I do hats, little girls purses, and cozy slippers, Christmas ornaments, whatever depending on the season.

My hubby always thinks I have enough, but I always end up making much more than my space can hold. I'm usually in pretty goos shape, then I think I need to make more and stay up late for a few nights creating. No wonder I'm wiped out after a show...lol Thanks for your response!!

I love going to Craft Shows. There are not much in my area. I would like someday to rent a space, but I don't have enough inventory so I guess I will have to plan for the holidays.

I haven't yet by I plan on starting soon. I found out that a restaurant just a few miles from here has an open 'show' every Monday. The small tables are only $3 and the bigger tables are $5 but you can 'rent' as many as you want. Now I just have to decide what I want to take to them.

I know! I was surprised myself...but it's a family run restaurant and they are closed on Mondays anyway since that's a really slow business day. So the owner thought..."well what else can we do with the place on Monday" and decided to have weekly craft shows. She doesn't charge much for the tables because her opinion is that the guarantee of $3 is better than the possibility of more.

Every Monday? That is awesome, what a great opportunity to build up a following. And the price is fantastic too! I wish I could find a place with that kind of fees! I'm paying anywhere from $40-$75 for a spot at one day shows. Good Luck with the show... and thank you for your response!!

I have a few lined up, and no, I'm not ready! LOL I still have quilts to finish, heck, quilts to start! Plus I'm doing kits this time, so I have pieces to cut and such. LOL Biting off more than I can chew as usual!

LOL, I know exactly how you feel. Last winter, I was knitting scarves during my lunch hour at work and staying up to midnight (or later) creating new pieces a couple of days before the show. At least my table displays are already taken care of and I can even accept credit cards this year! Thanks for your response...Good Luck!

I sell some of my native American crafts at consignment shops and also I take them with me where ever I go to make sells as often as I can. I wi9llbe going to POW Wows this year to try my luck selling there. One of the more unusual dream catchers that I have been putting together is with sharks jaws (I tell people that they are guaranteed to get rid of nightmares). My Great-Great-Great grandfather was Lame Bull a Cheyenne medicine man and I am trying to find out more about my ancestry. One way is by learning (mostly just by putting together crafts seen in my mind, no books or help from other people). I like to think that I use my head for more than just a hat rack.

A dream catcher with shark jaws...that sound awesome!! When I was in Arizona last year , I saw some beautiful Indian handmade items...they were sooo beautiful! There was a little shop in Sedona that had some wonderful pieces from anIndian artist and the pieces were simply gorgeous, wonderful colors and he was able to capture "nature" in his pieces. The pieces were fairly expensive, but would have really loved to have been able to buy a few pieces (if I ever get back to Sedona, I hope to be able to buy a few pieces of this gentleman's work) My hubby wrote down his name, but it was lost he wanted to buy a piece for me for my birthday. Thanks so much for the response...I hope one day you can post some pictures of your work... I'd really love to see it!
