How real do you believe the idea of the movie "really is". Explain which parts you agree with and or which parts you don't.

It is fiction of course but how does anyone know its impossible or it can't be real, or that it can't be plausible in our existence. I remember Morpheous posed a question "What is real?" "How do you define 'real'?" If "real" actually is what you can see, smell, taste, touch, hear... then in all fairness your definition of reality is limited only to yourself. In reality this "reality" is simply neuroelectric impulses being interpreted by the brain. Also what you perceive has already been defined by society, language, words and definitions decided far before you were even born (i.e. 'bird', 'computer', 'air', etc). Due to the example of the neurostimuli, its possible that your reality is just being stimulated virtually (but still stimulated nonetheless), leading you into believing everything you perceive is real. I'll go further with this point. Instead of asking if the movie has any realism or basis for consideration applied to our own reality... why not ask if "reality" is at all real? How do you truly know you are breathing air? Is it the sensation of the air filling your lungs and mouth every few seconds at a time? Is it because scientists have analyzed the "air" and found its components on a molecular level? This refers back to the definition problem, since reality was "defined" long before you. That means a back history has been established, and it also means questioning the reality is typically discouraged (human history and discoveries display this). The reality has to be invulnerable to scrutiny, and limits to the human mind actually assist with this problem (no telepathy, no omniscience, no "guide to reality" manual. just five senses and a thinking mind). Questioning reality is the only other way to disprove its facets. How about another something else then... How do you know you are at a computer reading text? How do you know that a person really wrote this? If we default back to our senses, we can claim we are touching the keyboard, seeing the text, hearing the computer sounds. Decent so far, but my other premise needs consideration. I write text, but there is no proof I am "real". My situation isn't the best example however, it does have some points along with the other thoughts. What you know, you can perceive and that defines reality, at least for the person. You know (or believe) you are seeing a computer and text. You know you are who you say you are due to experiences, memories and the fact of your own thoughts (at least to you yourself). However, you do not have full confirmation on the environment around you, nor do you have full confirmation of other people around you. Your mother and father could be figments of your mind. Your spouse might be an android or program (agents) The discussion starter could be a specter or pre-recording. I could be a server running an advanced AI (deus EX). There is the fact of yourself, there is a fact of empathy and assumption for people to. We either fully believe or we assume other people are in fact human, and that we are in fact in the real world. But why? Social conformity is a possible reason for this; thinking people are not real and acting like it would send alarms to many other people (if they are in fact people). Another reason as stated is empathy, observation and assumption. You are human and live in a world of humans. You know you exist, you know you have emotions. You also observe that other people have the same things. Still, there is no 100% guarantee the person is human, or that person is truly around you. All of this, and more is addressed in the movie. While I do hope this is the real world, at least the surprise if its not the real world will be mitigated. Hmm... actually it could still be very emotional and confusing (i.e. Neo's realization of The Matrix). Humans are set in lives, habits, and have invested heavily in this "reality". Imagine if you were just a person trapped in a prison being fed this real world program mentally; or imagine if you were a brain in a vat connected to a reality-archive. What would happen if someone just pulled the plug on the matter? Unless there was a specific countermeasure, the shock of seeing what reality is would be immense (due to the investment and specific comfort the reality brings). The change in your current situation would also be quite a feat for a person to handle mentally (Neo snapping when he discovers the real truth).

You are asking about The Matrix, right? I saw it a long time ago so I can't remember much of it, but I do remember the basic idea. It was really interesting, but I highly doubt that it could be real.
