He is a mutt. Part beagle part who-knows-what-else. He is about 7. Here's a little history, then I will tell you why I am proud Beau is not a social dog. We have had him ever since he was a puppy. We were always working and the kids were always at school. We didn't know the importance of socializing him. About 3 years ago, he bit an 11 year old girl. She came to our door. The kids 13 and 14 at the time were home by themselves. Although they knew not to open the door to anyone, she came to the door. My daughter opened it. I think my dog thought he was protecting her when he bit her. He has also gotten out of our yard and chased kids on scooters, bikes etc. Ever since then we have been VERY paranoid when someone new comes over. We don't take him for walks, (we have a big back yard.) He is a couch potato. OK fast forward to tonight. My SIL wanted to go walking (after our shopping trip today we knew we both needed it.) She brought her dog, also a couch potato. So we took Beau with us down to the park. He was SO good! He has only met the other male dog one other time. They got along wonderfully. When scooters, bikes, or skateboards went by.. he tried to go after them, but a quick jerk of the leash and a firm NO or a "hiss" sound (Learned on Dog Whisperer) he calmed down right away and went on with our walk. We only went 2 miles, the other dog got tired faster. But it was a great walk and I can't wait to go again! Either can he. However, just when I thought he could have no more energy, when we got home, he got out of my sons truck, on the leash, saw a cat and hauled @ss across 2 yardsto try to catch it.. I don't know where he found the energy. I just know he will be sore tomorrow.
