What do you think about a 15-year old child legally changing her name? That's what Miley has done. http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2008/03/17/5034176-ap.html LOS ANGELES - Hannah Montana is leaving destiny behind. Miley Cyrus, whose given name is Destiny Hope Cyrus, has filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court to change her full legal name to Miley Ray Cyrus. The 15-year-old singer and TV star is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who filed the papers last Friday with wife Leticia. Her father writes in the filing that the request was "to make her commonly used name the same as her legal name."The name-change request was first reported by the celebrity website TMZ.com. Miley Cyrus has said her father gave her the nickname "Smiley Miley" as a baby because of her sunny disposition. On the Disney Channel tween hit "Hannah Montana," she plays a teen who hides her singing stardom. Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus are hosting the Country Music Television ceremony together at Nashville's Belmont University on April 14.

I think in this situation it isn't a bad thing. Its not like she's changing it to be cool or changing it to some outrageous name. She's changing it to the name her family calls her and to the loving nickname her dad gave her as a baby. I have a friend who would love to do that. She has always gone by her middle name. everyone in her family calls her that, but in school every year she would have to tell teachers again that she preferred her middle name but she would have to write her first name on things.

I think that since Miley Cyrus is a celebrity, she doesn't have the life of a 15 year old. She works, and earns money, things a 15 year old usually don't deal with everyday, so basically she grew up quite fast. She's a lot more mature than most teens her age, and is she wants to change her name, so be it. She has the money to do it, and she seems to be happy with her decision. If she doesn't even go by her real name, and she goes by her nickname, then it really shouldn't matter, it just makes it easier on her. I think too many people worry about what celebrities do with their lives, they deserve a little privacy too. Just because they have money and their own shows and movies and what not doesn't give us the right to constantly judge what they do with their time and money.
