Simon Cowl was on Oprah Monday and he basically said that if American Idol is a popularity contest this year instead of a talent show, American Idol will end this year.
They also talked about Oprah's new show The Big Give and well, he wanted to do something of his own, he heard about this 3 year old girl who has cancer and her parents are having a very difficult time.
They have been driving back and forth for chemo everyday 100 mile drive. Mom's paycheck covers the bills and dad's covers the mortgage. Well, with taking care of their daughter, one parent needs to be there, so they are down 1 paycheck.
Simon can be very generous when he wants to be. He wrote a check for 162,000.00 to pay off their mortgage! He also told them that if they needed anything else, to call on him!
Oprah was talking about how good it feels to give and he said it took him 48 years to know what that felt like.
He said it felt good to help those parents out with their daughter.
I think all celebrities need to help special people like that.

I saw that show too. I think Simon was actually saying that if it continued to be a popularity contest instead of a talent contest, the American people would begin to lose interest. I don't think he was saying that he would put an end to it this year or anything like that. As long as the show is getting high ratings it will be around for a while.

Well, this was quite an interesting Show for sure. I was quite impressed with Simon's generousity, but I also was not shocked, as he does seem like such a Genuine man. I know I really like him. He is interesting to watch, and makes American Idol what it has come to be today.
As for a Talent Competion, or a Popularity Contest, that is hard to say. But I have seen some Talented people Singing wise already be Voted off, but the rest is yet to see. I think there is a lot of Excellent Singing competition this year. But in reality we have seen a couple of surprized this season again as well. Only time will tell in the next few weeks who can win for sure this yr. But overall I am hoping it Talent not Popularity that wins, and that they can be quite successful as well in the end.

Thanks for sharing. I am going out to her website to read more about this.
I did not watch American Idol until last year, so I only heard about Simon Cowel. One of local morning news people suggested reading his autobiography, but he strongly urged people to borrow it and not buy it so that we wouldn't be putting money in his pocket. But I love Simon. I think he is honest, most Brits are, from my experience and I think that is why people don't like him.
That is good to hear that Simon did this for this family. I honestly think that when he went to Africa last year it was a true awakening for him.
It is nice to see celebrities helping people in the US,for change.
I understand that there are a lot of places worse off then the US but I think of the poor children who go hungry, or have no heat and it makes me so sad.
One of the schools I work at have a lot of free lunch kids, well the teachers allow snacks during their quiet reading time. Some of these kid's parents can't afford to send in a daily snack, so I always throw a couple extra bags of cookies, gummies, etc. because it is so sad to see these little guys say they didn't bring a snack and that they were hungry. It's not their fault.
