Lost purse or wallet

Someone just posted on a local forum that they (and a few friends) accidentally put their coats and a purse into a vehicle the other night thinking it was another friends vehicle. They discovered too late that they'd put it in the wrong vehicle and are now trying to locate their items. I left my purse at a restaurant once about 16 years ago and, thankfully, whoever found it was honest and turned it in so they had it at the counter when I returned. I had quite a bit of money in, too, as we were on vacation! Have you ever found a wallet or purse? Where did you find it? Have you ever lost anything like that? Was it returned intact?

I was getting into my car in the WalMart parking lot several months ago and there was a shopping cart next to it that had a wallet in the seat. I debated bringing it back inside, but it was a long walk and I figured I'd just take it home and see if I could identify the person myself, and if not, turn it into the local police station. I did find plenty of ID and credit cards, but no money. On a whim I looked in the phone book and there was a listing for that person, so i called and left a msg. I didn't get a call back that day, so I called the local Sheriff's Dept and they said even if I lived outside of city limits, it was found inside city limits so I had to call the city PD. I called them, they said since I was outside they couldn't come to me, so I'd have to bring it in. So much for that. I was going to bring it to work with me the next day to do just that, but the woman called and was absolutely overjoyed that I'd found it. I told her it looked like someone had got to it before I did because there was no money in it at all, just a few coins. She said no, that was all she had as she had just done her shopping and put her money and receipts in her coat pocket. I agreed to meet with her at a nearby gas station and she was near tears, kept telling me she couldn't believe I'd gone to all that trouble, was so happy that I had found it instead of someone less honest, yadda yadda yadda, and hugged my neck several times. I didn't think what I'd done was such a big deal. Is our world really that bad today?
