What is it with pink and little girls?

Why do little girls (well, the vest majority of them in my experience) seem to gravitate naturally towards the colour pink? All the little girls I know, when left to choose their own outfit, will end up in at least one pink item. Now why is this? Is it because we force pink on baby girls? Or do they just have a natural affinity for it? I haven't got a little girl myself, but maybe you could ask yours for me! Now I've typed this though I'm now wondering how many people are going to come back to say that their little girl hates pink, always wears black/yellow/green ....

My take on this is that the girls are left with little choice. Mostly the kids section is overflowinf with pink dresses. the odds of them picking any other color is like 1 in 6. I have also noticed the skew toward blue color for boys. Actually the difference could be noted when you are buying a gift for a newborn. Guys get all blue and girls get all pink. Its international phenomenon. haha..

Roniroxas, what a pain, you can't pass clthes down through your girls if they all want different colours! I'm not sure about pink being a hot colour for boys. It's not where I am, although one of the football teams wears pink so that's putting a male seal of approval on it.

Wahishaji, you're right about the choices available for girls. Pink, pink or pink! I like brights myself, whatever colour, but sometimes I do struggle when I'm looking for gifts for my neice.

My youngest at almost 2 is too little to be picking a fav colour, however my eldest at 4 happily announced to anyone in hearing that pink is yuk and blue is her favourite colour, she much prefers lilac and blue to any other colour infact she doesnt have all that much pink as trying to get her to wear it is a battle im not really interested in trying to win! My youngest though wears a lot of pink simply because I can naughty maybe but intime she will maybe not want to i will make the most of it while she likes pink girly dresses!

Lilac and purple seem to be coming out as very popular colours for little girls to be choosing themselves. I'll have to file that knowledge away for nexy time I'm buying clothes as presents. I love purple myself, it's a really rich colour. It's no wonder it's linked with royalty.

Ah yes Grandmas they are wonderful at insisting on it all being pink! I bought a lot of white or cream some yellow neutral stuff while pregnant 9despite knowing with my second it was a girl but just incase they got it wrong) as soon as my eldest was born an all manner of pink little outfits came by the dozen thanks to my MIL, my friend however bought her a gorgeous lilac outfit and it was my fav by far.

Well.. I really think it goes back to tradition, blue is for boys and pink is for girls. I think pink is cute. My friends little girl is pink and at first I wanted to buy her pink pink pink! I hope she doesnt hate that color some day... but really I think they all go through those phases where they hate pink as they are growing up.

It's certainly traditional. Here, babies are carried around in their car seats & they have a blanket draped over which is either pink or blue round the edges. Reminds me of a tablecloth! When my neice was smaller, it was really hard to find anything in her wardrobe that wasn't pink. I felt rather sorry for her, but I don't suppose she cared much at that age. As she's getting older she's showing more of an interest, but still likes pink. Now it's hot pink colours though rather than baby pink, which I'm very glad about as baby pink is just yukky!

my almost-4-year-old LOVES pink and she really came to it on her own. She didn't wear that much pink when she was younger, and still has a variety of colors in her drawers, and her room isn't pink. She also loves purple, but pink has surpassed it. If you have a little one who likes pink, be sure to get the children's book "Pinkalicious" - it's a great story and any kid who loves pink will love the book! It's one of my daughter's favorites.

Sounds like a good recommendation for my neice. She's a bit of a pink junkie, but has enough clothes to last her till she's an adult LoL

I think little girls choose pink so often because it is what is mostly available for them. It is also what a lot of people buy for little girls. I personally hated pink myself until I was about 15. I still love it and so my little girl being only nine months old wears lots of pink. Though she looks best in lavander. She cant argue with me so im getting away with it for now. When she gets a bit older i will have her help pick out the colors herself. Thinks its important to help them express themselves as they get bigger. My mom dictated what i wore until i was abour 8 or 9. So i want my little girl to have more imput in what she wears. As long as its not inappropriate.

I have found that most little kids like pink - girl or boy! I guess because it's usually nice and bright....

The brighter shade of pink I like, but baby pink is just yukky. I can't imagine anyone choosing it voluntarily! My boys have shown no interest in pink at all, but I guess kids pick up on their parent's feelings.
