My husband gets his meds from the VA and they are mailed to him..Well today he opened the envelope and was looking at the bottle of pills...It was for something he does not take, and then he noticed that it wasn't even his name on the prescription bottle...
He looked up the meds that were sent to him and they are for people with suicidal tendencies... yikes!!!! He was supposed to get Imitrex for his headaches...and another narcotic for his severe pain...
We are assuming that the other person received my husbands Imitrex but we don't know about the Narcotic yet....If this person got the narcotic, will he dump it or use it? Nobody knows..I would think they would have him send it back just so they know he won't use it..
He called the pharmacy and they told him to throw out the pills immediately (they won't take them back) and he did...
Just think if this was someone who didn't take the time or couldn't read the bottle and just trusted that the prescription was correct..That would be horrible and could be fatal to take the wrong medicine...
I wonder what will happen to the pharmacist who made the mistake?
Have you or anyone you know ever received the wrong prescription, either by mail or by your own pharmacy? What did you do?

You'd think the pharmacists would pay more attention to what they were sending out and to who. I'm glad your husband was paying close attention to everything. That could have turned out to be disastrous! I don't know if you remember my discussion about when my father in law went into the diabetic coma or not. But it was because the pharmacist gave him the insulin that he used to use for his shots instead of the fast acting insulin he needed for his insulin pump. And the pharmacist did it without telling my mother in law that it wasn't the fast acting stuff. They purposely kept their mouths shut about it! My mother in law is now transferring all of her prescriptions to another pharmacy in town...one that has a better reputation with its customers.

Yes, I do remember that discussion..That is horrifying to say the least...I am so sorry that happened..Hubby did get the Narcotic today..thank goodness..The other guy must have gotten hubby's imitrex shots which have needles so that isn't good for the other guy...Nightmare...
What is weird is the paperwork for the imitrex injections was in the envelope..they had it half right...Half right is not right, right?
take care PPP...hugs

As far as I am aware we have never received the wrong medication even though we have only ordered online once. I am due to put in another order for my hubby's diabetic prescription next week so I'll make sure I check it properly.
I'm glad that you were able to find that out early or else he may of taken the medicine without even knowing.

He realized it right away when he noticed the bottle was the wrong size for what he ordered...He did get his narcotic today, so that is a big relief..It is always better to be safe than sorry...

Actually yes, this recently happened to my husband and he took them back the next day. I hope you didn't have to pay for their mistake and that your husband gets his prescription soon..

I get my pets meds online does that count! And no they have never messed up - scary to think the pet people can get it right and the human folk don't. It always amuses me that in every job there are mistakes but when the medics mess up it is so much more wrong. I guess the consequences (and in your case it could have been fatal) make it so you'd hope they didn't happen. I guess if the government can ship nuclear warheads unauthorised around the country and nuclear switches to an embargoed country and not notice for two years, then all things are possible. Oh dear I think it must be my cynical Sunday!

feona 1962 yes I went into my localpharmacy to pick up my diabetes meds and somehow did not check them until after I had left the pharmacy.then I was shocked to find only two of my meds and one that belonged to somebody else. so I went backin immediately
and told the pharmacist what had happened and he found my missing medication in the other person;s bag so I gave him back the wrong prescription and he gave me my misssing perscription.
thank God I could read and that I had not gotten home before I found the error.

I am so glad you realized it before you got home...It never hurts to be careful..especially with medicines..if taken wrong can harm us....It makes you wonder how many prescriptions they were filling at the same time...

Hubby gets all of his meds through VA as well and we've never had any problems with it. My Mom though did get meds delivered to her house by accident for someone else. She contacted the post office and they took them to re-deliver them to the right ppl.
