Today while watching the Tyra Banks show about women having thoughts of wanting to harm their own babies after just giving birth I learned about PPOCD. Some of these women have had horrible thoughts of wanting to harm their own children but never have acted upon it. Apparently there is a new OCD out there for new mom's that everyone was unaware of. Postpartum Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (PPOCD) is a condition in which a new mother's hyper vigilance about possible harm to her baby (posed by other people, situations or even herself) leads to intrusive thoughts, obsessive thoughts, avoidance behavior, anxiety, depression or fear. Has anyone else heard of this? Please give your thoughts on this matter.

i saw a show on the same thing a few months ago ,and i was shocked that a person would want to hurt there own child for no apparent reason, its crazy but i guess they can't help themselves for some reason,i'm glad that did not happen with my ex wife when we had our children...

That's the thing, they only think about it and never discuss it with their close ones. One woman that was on the show said that she didn't tell her other half in fear that he would try to take her son or turn her in. The other method which is Postpartum Psychosis is general the one where they actually act upon these thoughts. It's scary and most of these past deaths of children could probably been saved had the mother's actually been diagnosed properly.
