The Best Software program for learning spanish ?

When I first started to learn Spanish, there was this program on those old records, called the Cortina Method and then there was the Berlitz method of learning Spanish. So later on I bought the Living Language box with the tapes and after that some language programs that were just for travels. I now use the Language Now that works fine, although I would rather buy the Rosetta Stone. There are some others, but I cannot order them from the States (I live in Canada) unless we drive down there or fly down there, thanks for the evil NAFTA. Now what do you consider the best software program for learning Spanish or a new language as it were?

I was thinking of getting the Rosetta Stone, but it is quite expensive and even if I buy a second hand one, it would still cost more than what I can afford. I do find that if someone sings a song in Spanish, I find it easier to learn than just reading from a page. I will have to keep saving, as I plan to get a Mac and want a program that can be used on either a Window or a Mac platform.

Trouble is I cannot just go into Future Shop or Staples to buy the program. If it is in the city, it is probably in a University bookstore or downtown. I can get an audio program at our bookstore, but not a computer one and there is a computer one at Staples but that is just for travelers and not for any who want to have a conversation.

Hello suspenseful, In answer to your post, I too have an interest in learning Spanish. Last week I found a site that you can check out. I think its great. It's called myhappyplanet.com. You can get friends, and studybuddies. Hope this has been some help. popciclecold

I will check this out. Do you have to pay a membership fee depending on what level you want? I know I used to belong to a site where they gave basic lessons for free, Paolo, and then they started charging. That was some years ago and I could not afford to get it.

I looked on Amazon. com and Amazon.ca. It is way out of my price range, but it is the best.

Buenas, ¿cómo estás? ;). Basically it just takes your own inspiration and if you have the will power and motivation you could use a phone book in Spanish and still learn it well ;). If you have a lower level of motivation I would suggest using craigslist.org to search for a used copy of Rosetta Stone (I've seen them for the ridiculously low price of 40 USD). So you may want to consider that, right? Or you and I could always be pals and we could speak in Spanish ;)) Pablo

I will save for the Rosetta Stone, but I wonder whether I should learn the Mexican or the European Spanish version? We might drop in in Mexico this fall, but we might also take a trip to Europe some time in the future if my husband gets better. I do not know if Craigslist will ship to Canada though.

To echo another poster, I've heard that Rosetta Stone is the very best software out there. At a company I worked for previously, that is all they used to train executives on how to speak other languages so they could conduct business with them. I've been meaning to learn some languages myself, but i just don't have time.

I will have to save up for it. I did get a demo cd, but my son wrecked it.

I do not have that much time to learn Spanish because right now I am writing my novel and also taking singing lessons. However I do wish I could afford the Rosetta Stone. But there is my husband. He seems to think everything I buy is junk. Of course he does not realize I do not make enough money to buy anything expensive.
