In news just breaking shortly before 8 PM this evening, there has been a security breach of Barack Obama's passport files by the State Department not once, not even twice but THREE times since January of this year. The first two contract employees responsible for this breach were fired and the third has been reprimanded but is still employed. Senator Obama wasn't told of this until this evening. Read more here about this story that is evolving at this moment.

It's been reported that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was told of these incidents only yesterday and the Inspector General just learned of it today. I have a few questions about this, not the least of which is who knew what about this, how high up in the Administration and when did they know it? Were there political motives, as in 1992 when then candidate Bill Clinton's passport records were also accessed? Also, if a U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate can have his privacy violated that easily what does that say about the rest of us?

Good! I am glad they fried those guys.
And yes they are invading the privacy of a Presidential candidate.
I think those kind of people should also be fired when accessing OUR records without reason.
This is a disgrace to the constitution.
I guess they don't even have respect for Senators anymore.
Also did they find out the reason for why they accessed his info?

The most recent one hasn't been fired yet. The details are pretty sketchy so far as to why they did it. I don't know if it was pure nosiness or if they had some political motive. Whatever the case, it's sure rotten. I agree, it makes no difference if it's a Senator or a private citizen like you or me, they shouldn't be able to do it.

yikes. makes you wonder what other kinds of things can be so easily accessed. what on earth were they thinking. they must have had a clearance to access the records. it cant possibly be that easy...can it?
