What will you do if your boss knows you are looking for a new job?

Yesterday my boss asked me suddenly that if I was looking for a new job, because one women worker told him that she heard my talking on the telephone. I was annoyed but in fact, I didn't know how to answer him.
Actually, he is a good boss, which is the main reason that I stay here. But what the worse is, my work is rather boring:( so far we just have one customer, without orders for nearly half an year gets us into serious financial problems. Then I have nothing to do everyday and my salary is rather low that I almost can not servival in this big city! When the company is making a loss, how can you ask to get a raise?
Looking for a new job to realize my value is what my BF do expected. To be honest, I do wish a big sucess of our company, but now I feel fairly embarrassed. If you were me, go or stay, what is your choice?

Dear luckymy,
Don't worry, Even if he sends you packing it will only be good for you. That lady who overheard you talking should not have said that to your Boss. She must have been jealous of you for being closer and valuable for the boss. My Son had a similar experiance in his life.
His boss was the one who supported him when he was in real difficulties. But when he started getting bored and tired out with loss of interest he started looking for a new one. One day the window in his computer at the office was open and he was reading a mail. Boss came behind him, must have read the mail but didn't say anything.
Boss also knew that my son would not be with him for long but he also didn't expect this. For some time both were feeling awkward, after two months my son left the job as he got a better one. But boss didn't sack him because he could understand my son's plight. So don't worry, everything will be allright. All the best

Ahh, ya my friend ever get caught when he open online searching jobs. and the boss calling him to his room. This boss asking to him why he need open searching online jobs? and than my friend tell to him the reason why he need new job. He lucky the boss is very wise so he not angry, he just ask to my friend to finis some project and he said if you can finis that project he will get promotion and rise salary if not my friend will back to old position. So he try to finis that project but unfortunately he can finis in the right time so he not get that promotion but he still get raise salary not big but that more than he expected.

Hello lellyp, I must confess that your friend is very lucky, and his boss is so wise. But I think most bosses will be upset to see his/her employees are searching a new job. Sometimes the employee can be fired immdiately without any compensation.

i think it is somewhat good in other ways. actually i have found in both the jibs till now, it drives the manager to provide you some good grades or bonus if they know you are not happy here.I have seen my boss offering me a bonus as i told i am not happy and he anticipated I am leaving this company.

You are right. My friends told me that in her comepany, the boss usually keeps the talents by raising the salary. But I do not think this will be happen to me, because we are making a loss now. To be frank, it is not our fault. As a newly founded company, there is no completed system, no performance inspection, no drive mechanism, no solid customer base. I think I am wasting my life day by day here, so I have to go to find my development space.

please keep remember that you work for yourself although in a company and got salary from your boss, maybe you feel your boss was a good man, did you feel he regard you a friend, if your company must down size, perhaps you would be lay off, you must alive, eating, closing and so on, i think it was not helpful for you and your boss to work there any more. you should choose another change, maybe you can help your boss in the future, who knows !!!!!!!
