Chantal Sebire, the 52 year old woman who was diagnosed of a rare disease requested that she be assisted in committing suicide. She made her request but a court order denied the same. Chantal Sebire even asked for help from President Nicolas Sarkszy to allow her to die by Euthanasia but was denied as it is illegal in France. Chantal Sebire's disease is known as Esthesioneuroblastoma. It's a malignant tumor in the nasal cavity which has deprived her of almost all her senses.Tumors appearing on her face has disfigured her facial appearance so badly. Her eye sockets are popping out and the disease has also eaten her jaws. She suffered because of the pain for hours and hours everyday. The medicine don't do her any good anymore. Her case is hopeless. She was found dead few days after the court order in her home in France. It's not known whether she committed suicide or not. However,Her situation and sudden death revives the issue of Euthanasia and mercy killing. Should euthanasia have been granted to her? Should she had been given the choice to take away her own life with other people like doctors aiding her? It's hard to make a stand on this issue. It depends on ones personal convictions and beliefs. Could one stand seeing your loved one suffer everyday for a disease that you know is incurable and you very well know that your loved one's life is numbered? Will you end your loved one's suffering? Or will you prolong the suffering and let the disease have the final say on when suffering and pain should stop?
