What do cats see?

For you cat owners out there, does anyone have a cat that sees things? Our cat will be laying on my lap or nearby and suddenly raise his head and stare into a corner or another room. He will stare for several seconds without moving as if he sees something I can't see. Sometimes it is a little scary. Can cats see somethings we can't? He does this a lot in our bedroom. I have never felt anything there. Anyone else notice this kind of behavior?

They seem to be able to see or at least sense things ... I have 3 cats and usually it is not just one of them who will look in the same spot at the same time. There was even once when only one of the cats were in the house and he just started hissing at a spot (and no, he is not psychotic! lol) And sometimes it will look like the are actually following the 'thing' around with their eyes/heads. Don't know what it is that they see ... but I have decided long ago if my cats don't hiss at it, I am okay with it. It is only when they start hissing at it that I start getting scared! lol

I think if my cat starting hissing at something, I would really freak. I would also be a little upset if he would leave the room quickly after an episode. Since he doesn't do that either, I may not have anything to worry about. Thanks for the reply.

my cats do this. a lot of times i'll see them staring, and at first i won't see what they're looking at,then i realize it's a dust bunny falling from the ceiling,or a lil tiny house spider. there's been a few times though i never figured out what they were looking at.
