Everything is So Expensive.

What do you think? Do you notice the price changes? Do you live in a country where everything is getting ridiculously expensive within the recent 2 years? I was reading magazines during weekend and I was surprised to find that the prices quoted in the magazines for skin care/ makeup items are like "doubled" when compared to last year. I thought I was dreaming but my mom has also been complaining about the prices of the food. What's the situation in your country?

Hold onto as much of your money as you can now, because when you get to my age and retire, it will only be worse, at least here in the states. Living on a "fixed" income is pretty hard and as you get older, your health gets worse, too and you get more medical bills and more medicine. Well, I could go on, but you get the picture. If the cost of living goes up a couple of dollars, our social security may go up 20 cents. Hmmm, what bill do I pay this month? My advice is start saving now!

When we based from two years ago, the prices of like everything are getting higher and higher like crazy. I don't shop often so the price I saw the other year (hahaha.. told ya I don't shop often) is like doubled or tripled this year. I was like "hold on miss saleslady, I'll be back.." I don't know, maybe in another two years time the price will be unbelievable..

Wow, yea! I have been planning to go to Europe for quite some time but I still haven't got the urge to do so because of the euro currency is really expensive.

I totally agree with you. Everything's price is increasing except for our salaries There are something that increase the price obviously. The famous example is the pork here. It's double price than before. Also the gas is expensive, too. And my son's powder milk seems to increase price for at least 20%.

Yeah, everything is going up. i'm in FL and dog treats, all kinds of foods/snacks and drinks, gas, clothes, the price of a hair cut, etc. everything just keeps going up and it sucks! they are just making it harder to live and it's not like theres much hope for it stopping anytime soon... i fear what the world is gonna be like 5-10 years from now or how much things will have gone up even more.

I have to admit that I am really surprised at how expensive things are. Whenever I go into a store and see the prices or just looking through sales papers, I am amazed! I don't know how people make it with food and gas costing so much. It's a little scary to me.

Yes, I think we all have noticed it, and it's pretty simple really. The price of fuel, especially diesel fuel has gone, way, way up. Practically everything is moved my trucks using said fuel. It costs move to the product, so the cost is passed on to the consumer, i.e. costs rise. For ecconomies heavily dependent on the U.S. dollar it is even worse, since the dollar keeps losing value. That means stuff imported to the U.S. from other countries (cough china cough) costs more than it once did, in America, or again anywhere else whose economy is based on the dollar. So higher price for product, and higher cost to move the product makes the prices really go up. As the dollar continues to fall, and the fuel prices continue to rise, prices for everything will just keep going up.

Hello dear wondericequeen. I agree with you that almost everything is on the rise these two years. I am wondering why. I hate it when the price is going up and up without falling down to a cheaper price as it used to. I am in the hope that the price will come back to its previous status that we could bear instead of going up. Thanks.

Right, even with the pay rise, it doesn't seem to be enough to cover up the "inflation".

I bought s little something today that comes in one of those kewl pump type dispensers that gives you just a dot at a time and that is a good thing because the 11.9g (.42oz) cost $10 USD. It was Sally Hansen Peptide Lip Line Treatment (for the over 50 crowd) and it is really pretty nice with lots of vitamins and other wholesome things mixed in with the icky chemicals. But it was half price because we had a coupon for $5 off if we bought $25 of stuff and hubby just needed one $15 item, so he said "Why don't you go play in the cosmetics department!" So when we checked out my expensive stuff was $5 and they gave us another $5 coupon to use next time. So, yes stuff is expensive, but many of the stores have 2 for 1 offers or discount coupons. Too bad that doesn't happen with gasoline. It is about as high now as we've ever seen it.

Yes I notice those buy 2 for 1 offers when I was in Fred Myers and I have to admit that I was pretty surprised when I saw those. Then I compared the same thing with walmart and it isn't really necessarily cheaper and I was like "what a gimmick!". But when things have discounts, the prices are so much more affordable. I agree that the gas price is really crazy and scary!

I've just noticed that it seems like whenever the gas prices go up then the price of several other things go up as well.

Me neither, I think that our pay rise is not enough to cover the price rise anymore.

One major cause is the devaluation of the U.S. Dollar. The situation may be worse because U.S. is trying to fight the subprime crisis. If the US dollars decline is a long term trend in the future, it is better to convert the US-based currency to other currency. For skin care/makeup items made in Europe or Japan, prices shoot up because the rising of Euro or Japan. In Canada, inflation is not a problem so far because the rising of Canadian dollars in recent years. Also, food and gas are produced domestically.

Hello wondericequeen, It is very bad here. Everything seems to increase. Two days ago, the government decided to increase the price of the petrol. I think if things keep increasing, I will go down a level from middle class to poor class citizen *smiles*

I know in the USA the price of everything is going up. It is hard to get by with wages not keeping up with inflation.

I have noticed a lot of food going up in price like milk, eggs, bread. I know dairy has gone up due to the lack of dairy farms and wheat has gone up since more corn is being grown. Of course gas is continuing to rise but that's nothing new.

Last 2 years? How about the last 2 months? 159 gallons of fuel oil times 4 dollars a gallon is over 600 dollars American. We have sub-zero weather so we can't go without. We have lowered our thermos stats, but that doesn't help the price per gallon. Our new roof cut the amount of fuel needed in half, but still, Wow! A gallon of gas is $3.47 right now. In winter, all of our food is trucked in. So things are really, really high right now. Tofu used to be a good buy and still is, but it was $1.25 when I saw it a month or two ago and then $2.00 for the cheapest kind last week. Our news report said that wheat has tripled in price in three weeks. Went up three times in three weeks. WE use a lot of wheat in our country. A few things are still good buys, but lots of things cost way, way more.
