This is a christian based question. Does the bible strictly forbid a woman to be a pastor? I have heard it both ways, I have heard many a woman preach and I found the messages were good, but the question remains is it biblical? What do you think? Is it allowed by the bible?

I will not quote anything in the Bible since you have already heard the two different opinions about this. It is not the question whether what the woman is preaching is good or not. I totally agree that more women are good speakers. But being a good speaker is not a qualification to become a pastor. Women might hate this but the Bible IS NOT allowing a woman to speak (as in preaching). Since pastoring (or any position in ministry) is liken to a family where the father is the head, the Bible reiterates that it should be the man to shephered a flock.

Where in the Bible is that written? 1 Cor 11:5 gives space for women to preach... does it not? Moreover, if a woman can be an apostle why can't she preach? Romans 16:7 says that Junias was an apostle, and Junias was a woman. There are passages that forbit women taking up position, but I think those passages are contextual. But it depends on how a denomination sees it.. strange thing is that in the US Baptists are strongly against women's ordination, but here Baptists are strong supporter of women's ordination.

If you read Paul's Epistle, it says that men are to be leaders, and one of the leading responsibilities is that of a pastor or bishop, reverend, or minister. It also is better suited for men, as the women would be divided among their tasks as mothers carng for their children, and even single women who might be looking after their aged parents. Also men and women are different, men moved by intellect, while women by their emotions and be moved by sad eyes and pitiful stories rather than by the fact. There is also the conflict, if a man has to lead his household, and he sees an opposite in church, he wonders why. Are there no men capable of preaching, and what of the household of that woman who preaches? Does the man tell his children how to obey God or does he leave it up to his wife? So the Bible teaches that no woman should be pastors.

Where does it say that? Well, in a culture where man also cares for the children what will happen? If the argument is based on caring for the children, there are cultures where men do that work, and women will go out and make money. There are women who don't cry, and there are men who cry easily. I think it depends on individual and the way one is raised. In our society to raise the children in the ways of the Lord belongs to both man and woman. I believe the Bible allows woman to teach, in effect to be pastors.

I think it is possible, provided she is a qualified person. My Baptist church allows that, but Baptist don't. It is said that there was at least one woman apostle among the seventy two, Priscilla was an active leader. Even in OT Deborrah was a leader, a judge who governed the entire Israel. So I see no reason why woman cannot be a pastor if she is qualified.

I have a pretty strong opinion on this, but I do not hold it against others if they disagree, as it doesn't make any difference in someone's salvation. I believe that women should not be pastors, for several reasons. The Bible clearly establishes that men are to be the leaders, this doesn't in any way mean they are dominating, or suppressing women. It simply means he leads and bears a greater responsibility. Having women as pastors upsets the balance of leadership. If a woman is married, and pastoring a church, you have a contradiction in her life. Her husband is to be the leader of the household, yet she is the leader of the church, it doesn't add up. And if she has children, you really have a mess in the family, because mom is running the church, so she will be seen by the children as the one running the house aswell, while dad tries to be the leader of the family, it isn't going to work, besides the workload will take too much time away from the responsibility of being a mother. I think women have preached good sermons, but overall, women should not be pastoring the church, they have a critical role in ministry, particularly to other women and children they can reach out and minister in way that men can not, but it is important for men and women to accept their appropriate roles so they can accomplish the most they can.

In the bible it states that a woman should not instruct a man, but a woman is allowed to teach other women the way of being a godly woman. Now I am not in the way of knowing certain things, but that scripture would denote that a woman should not be a pastor to my understanding. I know women that I will personally ask guidance from before alot of men, maybe I am wrong in that, but I do not consider them as pastors, but as friends.

I also have the same question as yours. In the bible, there are no woman pastor or any woman who spear-headed a church by that time. But you know, in our Church, I have encountered a lot of pastors- woman to mention. In fact the head of our church now is a woman. I have to ask questions from people who I think can answer this and also, I can probably do some research on this. =)
